How to help an overworked mother
In her first experimem with the joys
of motherhood, Heidi produced only one
puppy. But her second litter contained
twelve healthy pups, and Heidi is
beginning to suspect that she may be
getting too much of a good thing.
Nobody knows why Heidi gave birth to
so many puppies. Maybe it has some-
thing to do with that fact that they were
born on August 12, and the father was
12 years old. ‘
When the pups were born, Heidi hid
them under the porch. Her owner, Ed.

finally crawled under the porch to get a
look at them. Mrs. Sumpman recalls,
‘‘Ed started throwing them out and he
just kept throwing them out. We were
waiting for the last one, but the puppies
just kept coming.’’
The pups now live in a shed where
visitors can get a good look at them. If
