Carnival in Mount Joy
—Jaycees and Recreation Assoc. hold
On Friday and Saturday,
September 2nd and 3rd, a
Carnival will be held in the ;
Mount Joy Borough Park.
Sponsored jointly by the
Mount Joy Jaycees and the
Mount Joy Recreation As-
sociation, the carnival will
feature food stands and
wheel stands, a dunking
machine, and a real live
clown!
The clown will wander
about the carnival grounds
amusing both young, old,
and middle-aged. The
Labor Day affair
clown will also hand out
balloons in return for a
mere pecuniary pittance.
In addition to all the
above, local craftsmen and
craftswomen will be dis-
playing their work at an-
other series of stands.
The Friday carnival
starts at 6:00 p.m. and
runs to 10:00 p.m. The
Saturday affair will begin
at 2:00 in the afternoon and
won’t end until 11:00 at
night.

Mr. Kulman is an expert
at drawing up proposals for
government funding, since
that is part of his job in
Philadelphia.
Mr. Kulman hopes to
have a permanent tree
commission for Marietta in
the future.
Ken Ross, the recently
appointed councilman, is
now working on another
proposal for funds. This
project would hire a person
to make a thorough door-to
-door survey of all the
homes in Marietta. Resi-
dents would be polled on
what, in their opinions, the
town should spend its
money on. Results would
be used as a guideline for
the Council.
Ross was recently ap-
pointed chairman of the
planning committee by
Council president Oliver
Overlander.
The application will be
decided on by September
12th. The funds would
come through the Lancaster
-Lebanon Manpower Con-
sortium.
Ken Ross told the Times
that he would like to see
the service organizations
represented to Council by
one member of each organ-
ization. He emphasized
that this idea is, at this
point, a tentative one, ‘‘not
fixed in concrete,’’ as he
put it.
Other members of the
survey proposal committee
are Oliver Overlander and
Dave White.
The Borough will be
looking for a good foreman
for the tree crew, with
experience. Anyone who
gets the job, though, will
have to have been unem-
ployed for at least 15
weeks, due to CETA regul-
ations.
Donegal Rangers to be
at Battle of Brandywine
The re-enactment of the
Battle of Brandywine, near
Chadd’s Ford, PA, is to
take place on the 200th
anniversary of the actual
event, on Saturday and
Sunday, September 0th
and 11th.
The Donegal Rangers
will be represented at the
mock conflagration, as will
many other units, including
one from Canada.
The Canadian troops’
trip down to our area is
being sponsored by the
Canadian government, to
the tune of $12,000. The
sum will pay for the
transportation of the
Queen’s York Rangers, an
active regiment from Tor-
onto.
Because they are mem-
bers of a foreign army, the
175 Queen’s Rangers had
to be formally cleared to
cross the border by the
U.S. department of State.
After the re-enactment,
the Americans will be the
guests of the Tories at a
Victory Ball (The British
won).
Mount Joy water
{| project to be acted on
The proposed ground-
water development project
of Mount Joy will be acted
on at the next meeting of
the Susquehanna River
Basin Commission. The
commission will meet in
Baltimore on September
8th at 9:00 a.m.
