Francine Huss is runner-up

Miss Joi Shearer, daugh-
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Shearer, 220 S. Delta St.,
Mount Joy, was chosen as
Miss Mount Joy 1977 at
the Miss Mount Joy Schol-
arship Pageant held Satur-
day at 8 p.m. in the
Donegal High School audi-
torium.
Mis Shearer, an upcom-
ing senior at Donegal High
School, sang a medley of
Neil Sadaka songs from an
arrangement by Miss Glor-
ia Longenecker, Miss Lan-
caster County 1976. As
winner, she will receive a
$200 scholarship and a
trophy.
First runner-up in the
pageant was Francine
Huss, daughter of Mrs.
Ethyl Huss and the late
Frank Huss, Kelly Ave.,
Mount Joy R1. The 1976
graduate of Donegal High
School performed a modern
dance routine. Miss Huss
will receive a $100 scholar-
ship and a trophy.
Cindy Emenheiser will
receive a Miss Congeniality
loving cup based on vates
by the six contestants in
the pageant. Miss Emen-
heiser is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. William
Emenheiser, of 325 SS.
Market Ave., Mount Joy.
Other contestants in the
pageant were: Donna Jo
Germer, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Donald M. Ger-
mer, Mount Joy R2; Dixie
Lee Newcomer, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Cindy Emenheiser
Newcomer, 36C West Main
St., Mount Joy; and Linda
Marie Sherk, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Sherk, Mount Joy R3.
Each of the six contest-
ants received a $25 savings
bond and numerous gifts
from local patrons.
Featured performers in
the pageant were Kimberly
Wright, Pennsylvania’s
Junior Miss; Jane Shipe,
Lancaster County’s Junior
Miss; Gloria Longenecker,
Miss Lancaster County
1976; and Kim Lauver,
Miss Mount Joy 1976.
Executive Director was
Gary Graybill and producer
was Gloria Longenecker.
The pageant was sponsored
by the Mount Joy Jaycees.
Col. Chester Smith heads
Maytown High Alumni
Col. Chester Ray Smith,
United States Army Ret.,
was elected president of
the Maytown High School
Alumni Association at its
annual dinner meeting Sat-
urday, held at Hostetters
Dining Hall, Mount Joy.
Also elected were. Mar-
garet Moore Gable, vice-
president; Lillian Kibler
Fry, recording secretary;
Helen Hollenbaugh, neu-
crology secretary.
Ten alumni attended who
graduated prior to 1917.
Howard Frysinger, class of
1899, who presented a
greeting; Lily McCurdy
Eakin, class of ’11; Daniel
Wolgemuth, ’12; Isabel
Endslow,’13; Helen Risser
Moyer, ’14; Grace Hender-
son, class of ’1S; Emily
Kraybill, ’1S; Harry Her-
shey, ’16; and Mary Horn-
er Herr, 17.
Candles were lit in mem-
ory of deceased class mates
as the roll call of classes
took place. The 1978 ban-
quet will be held June 17,
at Hostetters.
Geraniums were given to
prize winners.

Church World Service, is
organizing a special cultur-
al program on Saturday the
9th of July at the Forum in
Harrisburg Pennsylvania,
starting at 7:00 p.m.
The program will include
comedies, traditional and
modern dances and a great
variety of songs performed
by famous Vietnamese ar-
tists coming from Washing-
ton D. C., Virginia, Mary-
land, New Jersey, Texas,
California, etc.
This is to be a fund-
raising campaign, and
there will be an admission
charge for adults and
children.
