Page 12 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES Cub Pack 136 has picnic The Cub Scout Pack 136 committee meeting was at Sico Park, Mount Joy. It was a covered dish picnic. Attending were: Robert Mark, Myron Weber, Victor Wolf, Dana Mark, Ann Mark, Carolyn Waltz, Edna Wolf and Tina Biesecker. Pack 136 wishes to thank the following people for their help in the Bake Sale: Robert Mark, Victor Wolf, Edna Wolf, Paddy Ferrick, Carolyn Waltz and Loretta Dimeler. On June 25 ‘a hike at Tom’s Grove will take place. We will meet at Seiler School at 6:45 a.m. The bus will leave at 7:00 a.m. Bring a bag lunch. July 16-17 there will be an overnight camp out at Camp Wilderness. Meet at Seiler School on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. We will return Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Wear uniforms and have an extra set of clothes along and a tent if you have one. Scouts fix cemetery fence The spirit of Scouting was quite evident in Mount Joy recently, as six Scouts of Troop No. 39 and two leaders worked diligently painting the ornamental iron fence at the Mount Joy Cemetery, Terrace Road, Mount Joy. Few people had the opportunity to observe these young people doing this important job in a quiet and efficient way. This is one of many projects the Scouts perform with little or no publicity. Forbes, Mari- etta, bagged a S50 pound, 77 inch-long black bear in 1a . belle province du Quebec, Canada, last week with a single shot from a 308 Remington Pump at 80 yards. The bear is believed to be the largest ever taken in that area of Canada. It was estimated to be about 20 years old. This was the first Quebec hunting trip for Mike. He was on a week-long camping trip with Nathan Ehrhart, Mike Smith, Mike and Ray Deller, Eugene Snyder, Bob Gregory and Fred Grove, all of York County. Smith, Snyder and Grove each got bear, at 175, 225 and 150 Ibs. respectively. All members of the ex- pedition bagged several pounds of mosquitoes and black flies. In addition to being a great bear hunter, Mike is a machinist for Mold Base Industries, Harrisburg. Youngs celebrate S0th anniversary Mr. and Mrs. William W. Young of 16 Hellers Church Road, Leola, cele- brated their S0th Wedding Anniversary, Saturday June 4. A family party is planned the latter part of August with their children and grandchildren. The former residents of Marietta have three chil- dren: Mrs. Charles E. Watkins Jr., Atlanta, Ga., Mrs. William Collins, Ot- tawa, Canada, and Dr. William Young, Seattle, Washington. The couple have five grandchildren. William Young retired as an Insurance Broker in Columbia and is currently a tour guide for Plain and Fancy, Intercourse. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster. Mrs. Young is the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. E. Linwood Corman, former residents of Marietta. Kids’ poster contest A children’s poster con- test on the theme ‘‘My Animal Friends’ will be one of the attractions at the third annual horse. show sponsored by the Auxillary to the Humane League of Lancaster County. The show will be held June 25 (rain date June 26) at the Lancaster County Riding and Tennis Club, 2615 Columbia Ave., Lancaster. The contest is open to children through age 14. The posters may be in any medium and on any type paper. All entries will be exhibited and winners will be announced from the stand. All entries should be mailed to Mrs. John Wertz, 347 Groff Ave., Elizabeth- town, PA 17002. It is very important that the artist's name, address and age be written on the back of the picture.
