Society No. 27 was entertained at this time. Mr. Ralph Schneider, from the York area showed many articles he has form- ed from different varieties of gourds. This has become his favorite hobby and is really a renewal of an old art. Creativity results in many interesting forms, including animals, birds, birdhouses, dippers, sew- ing baskets, horns and frogs. Mrs. Ann Shank played a number of songs on the piano, and the group joined her in singing favorite selections. Twenty two Mount by Joseph Shaeffer The Mount Joy Leisure Club held their May meet- ing recently with 120 mem- bers present. The program consisted of an auction, with members bringing art- icles. The meeting began at noon with Author Braun as the auctioneer. After about one hour, the auction was stopped. The invocation given by Mr. Braun and coffee and cake was serv- ed. Following the dessert, President Shaeffer called the meeting to order, with the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The secretary’s report was presented by Anna members and twenty eight visitors were present; three of these were county lead- ers. Devotional time was led by Pauline Miller who read Psalms 33:1-9. Members introduced guests as Roll Call was taken. Mary Grace Martin, Secretary, read the minutes of the April meeting. Vera Frey gave the Treasurer's Report in the absence of Elizabeth Shuman. The Communications Committee reported having received a note of apprecia- tion for flowers given her by the Society, during her recent illness in the hospi- tal. She is now recuperat- ing at home. Vice President Kathryn Erb made mention of a Golden Anniversary date; Zerphey and the treasur- er’s report by Almeda Hostetter. Ruth Brandt of the Sunshine Committee reported 12 cards sent to the shut-ins. One new member Mable Andrews was presented to the club. President Shaeffer gave a report on the bus trip to Valley Forge and Plymouth Meeting Shopping Center. President Shaeffer an- nounced that a bus trip to the Great Adventure Safari Park will be scheduled for Wednesday, June 29. The final plans will be discus- sed at the June. meeting. Members desiring to go on the bus trip will be asked June 12th; to be celebrated by Kathryn and Warren Heisey. Words of greeting were given by Mae Fellenbaum and the other visiting leaders who were taking in the program. Margaret Heisey told of the interesting trip which twenty-five Society #8 members took recently to Hershey Farm and White Chimneys. Hostesses providing re- freshments were Evelyn Russell, Pauline Miller, Hettie Ginder, Anna Mae Derr, Anna Risser and Ada Kraybill. The next meeting will be held June 18th. at 2 p.m. in the Lutheran Church, Maytown at which time Christine Erb, a 4H Am- bassador to Europe, will be the speaker. Joy Leisure Club to sign for the trip at the June meeting. The next meeting will be Monday, June 13 and will begin at 1 p.m. The pro- gram will be a home talent show presented by some of the members. The greeters for the June meeting will be Mr. and Mrs. Frank LeVan. It was decided that the Leisure Club would be re- presented in the Memorial Day parade.
