We stuck a paragraph that was intended for the story, ‘“‘Race for Mayor,”’ into Mr. Flanagan’s statement in “The candidates speak’’ section, at the end. We apologise to Mr. Flanagan and to our readers. The tug-o-war caused a lot of excitement. \ Let them eat pie Riverview Elementary kids had a field day: tugs-o-war, pie eating, mat -rolling, screaming and yelling, and hand-standing. According to the rules, pie-eating contestants could not use their hands, only their mouths. As soon as they had scarfed one slice, they were handed another. Most of the kids only managed one in30 seconds, but a few ate as many as three or four. In a special event, the teachers had a tug-o-war with the kids. The teachers lost. A winner raises his hand in triumph.
