April 20, 1977 Mrs. Godfrey Cambridge moves to Marietta The widow of world-fam- ous comic and actor God- frey Cambridge moved to Marietta last week. Audrey Cambridge spot- ted a home she liked while driving through the river borough a while back. Last week, she and her family moved in the furniture and began redecorating. “I like the environment here,”’ she told our re- porter. ‘‘I’'m sure I'm among friends.” Audrey Cambridge’s fav- orite topic of conversation is her late husband. There was a side to the great comedian’s character that many of his fans don’t know about, we learned from his widow. He was a dedicated enemy of social evils. Mr. Cambridge sacrificed several years of his career to fighting heroin addic- tion. Godfrey and his wife researched, planned, and photographed a film called “Dead Is Dead’ about addiction and treatment. They also spent a lot of of volunteer time at the Phoenix House in New York, a shelter for runa- ways ‘and abandoned child- ren. Cambridge. won the award for the best film relating to drugs in 1974. He also won the Penn- sylvania Detective Humani- tarian Award twice. Godfrey Cambridge used to keep his family amused (and his skiils sharp) by adopting a comic personal- ity as soon as he woke up in the morning. He had 95 dialects and personalities in his reportoire, so the family ° got to see some original material at every free breakfast performance. Audrey describes herself as a ‘‘realist,”” but adds that it is sometimes hard to keep a realistic attitude toward life after losing someone you love. She says, ‘“To not make decisions for a year is the wrong thing to do. One should proceed with the life ahead and be thankful for the time you had to- gether.” Trout season started last week Roofing & Siding FREE ESTIMATES PEELE IERIE Ed Starts Thurs.
