OBITUARIES
Paris 8. Zink, Sr.
Paris B. Zink, Sr., 57, of
19 N. Bank St., Marietta,
died Sunday t 5:15 p.m. at
St. Joseph Hospital after
an illness of two years. He
was the husband of Marie
D. Brock Zink.
Born in Rapho Township,
he was a son of the late
Clayton and Clara Bricker
Zink. He was employed as
a tow motor operator for
the Penn Castings Comp-
any, Marietta. He was a
veteran of World War II
and served in the Army.
In addition to his widow,
he is survived by two
daughters and a son: Carol
L. Hartranft, Bloomsburg
R. 3; Ruth E., wife of
Everett Nagel, Marietta,
and Paris B. Zink, Jr., at
home.
Also surviving are three
grandsons and a brother
and four sisters: Lloyd B.
Zink, Mount Joy; Mrs.
Katie Eby and Mrs. Esther
Leber, both of Mount Joy;
Carrie, wif of Earl Bradley,
Manheim R. 2, and Mrs.
Gertrude Waltz, Milton
Grove.
Mrs. Annie M.
Westenhoefer
Mrs. Annie M. Westen-
hoefer, 94, died Monday
afternoon at Lehman’s Con-
valescent Home, Rheems.
She formerly lived in
Marietta. She was a guest
-at the home for the past
four and one-half years.
She was the widow of
William Westenhoefer Sr.,
who died in 1958S.
Born in Columbia, she
was a daughter of the late
Albert H. and Sarah
Barnes Newcomer. She was
a member of Zion Lutheran
Church, Marietta, and was
the oldest member of the
congregation. She had lived
in Marietta since 1905S.
Surviving are these child-
ren: William Westenhoefer
Jr., Ocala, Fla.; Russell
Westenhoefer, Hazel Crest,
Ill.; Margaret, wife of
Ralph Yingling, Hemp-
stead, Md.; Cora, wife of
John H. Detz, Marietta;
five grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; four-
jreat-great-grandchildren
and these sisters and
brother: Mrs. Eva B.
Cairns, Philadelphia; Mrs.
Carrie E. Hurst, Lancaster,
and Chester M. Newcomer,
York.
David C. Houseal
David C. Houseal, 40, of
309 Locust St., Columbia,
died Friday at his home at
12:45 a.m., after a two-
month illness. He had been
under the care of a
physician.
Mr. Houseal was born in
Marietta and was a son of
the late Walter and Thelma
Bowers Houseal.
He was on sick leave
from Colonial Metals Co.,
Columbia. He was a bap-
tized Christian, a veteran
of the U.S. Army during
the Korean Conflict and
served in Alaska.
He is survived by his
brother, Cleon Houseal,
Las Vegas, Nev., and by
his sister Nancy, wife of
Norman McMullen, Co-
lumbia.
fred L. Hummel
Fred L. Hummel, 70,
retired auto mechanic who
lived at Elizabethtown RI,
died at 4:30 p.m., Friday at
St. Joseph Hospital after
an illness of 10 months.
He retired in 1974 from
Crider’s Citgo Service Sta-
tion in Mount Joy. Hummel
had previously lived in
Mount Joy and Marietta.
Born in Philadelphia, the
son of the late John H. and
Lizzie Watkins Hummel, he
lived most of his life in
Lancaster County. His wife,
the late Sara Myers Hum-
mel, died in May 1972.
He is survived by daugh-
ters, Janet A., wife of
Donald J. Marley, Eliza-
bethtown R1, with whom
he resided; Doris A., wife
of Arthur Shaud, Jr.,
Marietta; Freda A. Hum-
mel and Mary Ellen Mum-
mel, both of Mechanics-
ville, MD; a son, Charles
C., of Olean, NY; 10.
grandchildren; a brother,
John, of Concord, CA; and
a sister, Elizabeth Hummel
of Irvington, NJ.
Mrs. Gertrude
Greenawalt Givens
Mrs. Gertrude Greena-
walt Givens, who was head
of the home economics
department at Cedar Crest
College for 23 years, died
unexpectedly in Easton
Hospital, Sunday. She was
the widow of John Givens.
Mrs. Givens was 84 and
lived in Easton for the past
10 years. She was a native
and former resident of
Mount Joy.
Mrs. Givens started her
work at Cedar Crest in
1937 and advanced to the
rank of professor. She had
previously served for six
years at Madison State
Teachers College, Harris-
onburg, Va., as head of the
textile and clothing divis-
ion. She had also taught in
Pennsylvania public schools
for ten years. She retired
from Cedar Crest in 1960.
She was a graduate of
Millersville State College
and received her master of
arts degree from Columbia
University.
Mrs. Givens was a mem-
ber of St. Mark’s United
Methodist Church, Mount
Joy.
She was born in Mount
Joy, a daughter of the late
Harry and Anna Dantz
Greenawalt.
She is survived by two
brothers, Howard Greena-
walt, Holmes Beach, Fla.,
and Owen P. Greenawalt,
New Cumberland.
Ray Myers
Ray Myers, former fire
chief of Friendship Fire Co.
1, Mount Joy, for 2S years,
died Thursday night at the
home of his son, Ray M.
Myers, 927 Raymee Drive,
with whom he had resided
since December.
Myers was 76 and lived
at 73 Autumn St., Salunga.
He retired in 1966 from
Sico Co., Mount Joy.
He was a former resident
of Mount Joy and was the
husband of Anna Nissly
Myers.
He held membership in
the Mount Joy Friendship,
Florin, Landisville, and Sa-
lunga fire companies. He
also belonged to Lancaster
County Firemen’s Associa-
tion.
Born in Newtown, he
was a son of the late
Emmanuel L. and Mary
Resh Myers.
In addition to his widow,
who is a guest at Fairview
Manor, Columbia, and his.
son, with whom he resided,
he is survived by three
grandchildren.
Levi W. Wilson
Levi W. Wilson, 72, of 1
Hemp St., Mount Joy, died
Tuesday after a lengthy
illness at the home of his
son, Clarence W. Wilson,
with whom he resided. He
was the husband of Mary
Way Wilson who died in
1946.
A resident of Mount Joy
for the past 54 years,
Wilson had been employed
for 35S years at the former
Mount Joy Paper Box Co.,
before his retirement in
1970.
He was a member of
Zion Baptist Church,
Orange County, Va.
Born in Orange County,
he was a son of the late
Clarence W. and Lula
Tolliver Wilson.
Beside his son Clarence,
with whom he resided, he
is survived by a son,
Gerald E. Wilson, Lancas--
ter, and a daughter, Mrs.
Dolores W. Thomas, De-
troit, Mich.; 11 grandchild-
ren; a brother, Lawrence
Wilson, Philadelphia, and
one sister, Mrs. Nora L.
Armwood, Washington,
D.C.
Irvin 8B. Gaul
Irvin B. Gaul, 75, of 344
Florin Ave., Mount Joy,
died Wednesday afternoon
at Lancaster General Hos-
pital after an illness of six
days.
Born in East Donegal
Township, he was a son of
the late John and Annie
Bear Gaul and the husband
of Bertha Robinson Gaul.
A resident of the Mount
Joy area most of his life,
he retired in 1973 from
Musser Potato Chip Co.,
Mountville, where he had
been employed 12 years.
In addition to his widow,
he is survived by a
daughter, Jeanette, wife of
Carl Altland, Dover; two
stepsons, Louis C. Baltozer
West Willow, and George
R. Baltozer, Mountville,
eight grandchildren; one
great-grandson, and a sis-
ter, Mrs. Martha G. Hos-
tetter, Maple Farms,
Akron.
John B. Stehman
John B. Stehman, 8S, of
116 Cameron St., Rheems,
died Wednesday at 12:25
p.m. at Lancaster Osteo-
pathic Hospital after a
lengthy illness.
He was the husband of
Etta Rineer Stehman.
He lived in Rheems for
the past 38 years and was
former employee of Landis
Stone Meal Co., Rheems,
as well as Kuntzelman’s
Ice Cream firm, Elizabeth-
town. Prior to retiring 16
years ago he was a dealer
for McNess Co., a feed
distributor.
He was a member of
Jehovah’s Witness Congre-
gation of Middletown.
He was born in Rapho
Township, a son of the late
Jacob and Fianna Bender
Stehman.
Surviving besides his
widow are eight children:
John A., Elizabethtown R.
2; Jay M., Columbia, R.1;
Fern S., wife of George T.
Kelton, Yardley; Ruth M.,
wife of Harry Smith, Pal-
myra; Deloras J., wife of
W. Paul Byers, Elizabeth-
town; Jean G., wife of
Junior M. Waybright, Pal-
myra; Annabel L., wife of
Frank Greenly, Elizabeth-
town R. 3, and Joanne,
wife of W. Thomas Fogie,
Marietta.
Also surviving are one
brother, Clayton B., Se-
bring, Fla.; 32 Grandchild-
ren; 29 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grand-
son.
