ler’s Cookbook’, a 176-
page soft cover book con-

The book started with an
idea several years ago that
too many fish taken from
the state’s lakes, rivers and
streams were being wast-
ed. ‘“‘After the excitement
and fun of the catch,” says
Ralph W. Abele, Commis-
sion Executive Director,
“far too many anglers and
their wives discard their
fish or miss getting the full
flavor of fish by simply
baking, broiling or frying
them.’ This new cookbook
makes it easy to prepare
gourment meals from fish
and other natural foods
found in freshwater.
The book contains easy-
to-follow directions in pre-
serving fish, including
smoking, pickling, canning
and freezing. Other chap-
ters contain instructions on
preparing soups and chow-
ders using fish, how to
make delicious batters and
sauces, and even contains
recipes for tasty side dishes
to go with fish meals such
as salads, dressings, and
sourdough breads. For the
person interested in un-
usual but nourishing meals
from nature, there is even
a chapter containing re-
cipes for preparing frogs,
crayfish, rattlesnakes, and
freshwater mussels.

Auction for
March of Dimes
A public sale and auction
to benefit the Lancaster
County Chapter—March of
Dimes has been scheduled
for Tuesday, April 19, at
the Green Dragon Farmers
Market and Auction, Route
222 north of Ephrata. This
is the twentieth year the
auction has been held;
making it one of the oldest
in the county.
The sale will start at 6
p.m., in the heated cow
barn with seats available.
Donations will be accept-
ed until the time of sale
according to John E. Mar-
tin, chairman.
Articles to be offered will
include quilts, household
items, furniture, cakes,
pies, clothing, canned
goods, tools, smoked
meats, candy and other
merchandise too numerous
to mention.
Well known auctioneers
will be conducting the auc-
tion.
All proceeds will go to
the Lancaster County Chap-
ter—March of Dimes in
their fight against birth
defects.
