OBITUARIE
J. DEWEY HORNAFIUS
J. Dewey Hornafius, 78,
Richland Lane, Mount Joy,
died unexpectedly Sunday
morning at Lancaster Gen-
eral Hospital. He was the
husband of the late Flor-
ence Gingrich Hornafius.
Born in Mount Joy and a
lifelong resident there, he
was the son of the late
Christian M. and Maggie
Thatcher Hornafius.
He was employed for 45
years by Pennsylvania Rail-
road in the baggage de-
partment, retiring in 1963
as assistant baggage su-
pervisor, Harrisburg divi-
sion.
He was a member of St.
Mark’s United Methodist
Church, Mount Joy, and of
the Brotherhood of Rail-
road, Airline and Steanship
Clerks.
Surviving him are a son,
James R. Horn, with whom
he resided; a daughter,
Loretta H., wife of Gerald
T. Stephen, Mount Joy;
and three grandchildren.

JOHN W. GUSLER
John W. Gusler, 70, a
retired Sico Oil Co. em-
ployee, died Saturday at
Lancaster General Hospital
at 6 a.m. after an illness of
10 months. He lived at S38
W. Front St., Marietta.
He retired in 1970 from
the Sico Co., Mount Joy.
He was a member of
Assembly of God Church,
Marietta R1, where for
many years he served as a
deacon.
Born in Duncannon, he
was a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Charles D. Gus-
ler.
He was a member of The
Artisans, Columbia.
Surviving are his widow,
Carrie E. Bressler Gusler,
at home; sons and daught-
ers: Alfred L. Halifax;
.Charles J., Bainbridge;
Lane D., Marietta R1;
Barbara F., wife of John
Fletcher, Mountville, and
Gale D., wife of Billy
Farmer, at home.
Also surviving are 13
grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; brothers:
George, Raymond, Nelson
and Jess, all of Duncannon,
and Ross, Middletown, and
a sister, Catherine Noss,
Columbia.
PAUL H. DIFFENDERFER
Paul H. Diffenderfer, 71,
of 725 Bruce Ave., Mount
joy, died Wednesday mor-
ning at Lancaster General
Hospital after an illness of
three years.
He was the husband of
Esther H. Garber Diffen-
derfer. He was born in
Mount Joy, a son of the
late Elmira Rhoads and
Lewis C. Diffenderfer.
He lived his entire life in
Mount Joy. He retired in
1971 from the Mount Joy
Bulletin, where he was a
printer for S1 years.
His hobbies were hunt-
ing and fishing. He was a
member of Trinity Lutheran
Church, Casiphia Lodge
no. S11, F&AM Florin
Fire Company, Friendship
Fire Co. No. 1, where he
was a S0-year honorary
member, and- life member
of the Mount Joy Sports-
men’s Association, all in
Mount Joy; the Blain's
Sportsmen’s Club and
Western Perry Trout Nurs-
ery; and the American
Association of Retired Per-
sons.
In addition to his widow,
he is survived by one
sister, Mae, wife of Hubert
M. Rice, Mount Joy.
Mildred Zink
discusses herbs
with Leisure Club
The Mount Joy Leisure
Club met recently, begin-
ning at noon with a covered
dish dinner and 147 mem-
bers and guests in atten-
dance after the dinner
Mildred Zink displayed var-
ious herbs and presented a
very interesting program .
on the various kinds of
herbs and how they can be
used. Ms. Zink is associat-
ed with the Donegal Plan-
tation.
Following the dinner and
the program a business
meeting was held with
President Joe Shaeffer of-
ficiating. Following the
reading of the minutes by
Nedra Brandt and a trea-
surer’s report by Kathy
Zink, Arthur Braun install-
ed the new officers for 1977
and they are, President Joe
Shaeffer, First Vice Pres.
Anna Mae Eby, Second
Vice Pres. Eva Groff,
Secretary Anna Zerphy,
Asst. Secretary Nedra
Brandt, Treasurer Almeda
Hostetter, Asst. Treasurer
John Brown, Recording

and Asst. Recording Secre-
tary Clinton Eby.
Following the installation
of the officers, Lena Eshle-
man of the Sunshine Com-
mittee reported 11 cards
sent to shut-ins. One new
member, Alice Bryan, joined
the club. Visitors included
Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Ober,
Elizabeth Wanner, Ruth
Hernley, Mr. and Mrs.
Elias Landvater and Eliza-
beth Gantz.
President Shaeffer stated
there would be an auction
at the May 9th meeting
and all articles brought for
the auction must be un-
wrapped. A bus trip is
being planned in May. It is
hoped that in the near
future one of the programs
will be a home talent
presented by members of
the Leisure Club.
The following ladies were
asked to supply cakes for
the April 11th meeting,
Belle Ludwig, Annie Moy-
er, Grace may, Mary Leh-
man, Catherine Christ,
Mary Rhinehart, Helen
Pennell, Dorothy Pennell
and Dorothy Neidigh.
