Madge Linton’s placemats Mrs. Norman Linton, Sr., of 204 Birchland Avenue, Mount Joy, could set an interesting table for up to 174 guests if she wanted to. Each guests would have his own conversation piece in the form of a place mat. And each place mat would be different. Madge Linton’s 174 place mats have been col- lected over the last five years from all over the U.S. and from eight foreign countries. Since they are the paper kind, from res- taurants, it is unlikely that she will use them for a dinner. She did use them to win a prize, however. Madge won a blue rib- bon at the Optimist 27th Annual Hobby Show held at McCaskey High in Lan- caster last week. Besides place mats, there were vast collections of furs, frogs, salt and pepper shakers, old tobacco tins, and other collectibles. One man brought a grandfather clock made from a dead tree in his yard. Madge had the best place mats. Her 13-year-old grand- daughter, Jill, of Landis- ville, talked Madge into entering the contest. Jill herself won a second prize for her collection of 103 dolls. Madge also collects pen- cils.
