No shortage of oil
or electricity here
The current natural-gas
and fuel oil shortages have
not yet affected local elec-
tric companies and oil
suppliers.
“PP&L at this time has
adequate capacity to supply
electrical customers in its
service ares,’’ PP&L
executive vice-president
Brooke R. Hartman said.
He added, however, the
the Company recognizes
the problems occuring as a
result of fuel shortages in
other areas, and it is
endoring compliance with
the requests of Governor
Shapp and President Carter
for conservation measures.
PP&L is watching for the
possible effect on electrical
loads of a switchover to
electric space heaters due
to shortages of other fuels.
Hartman pointed out that
PP&L has been endorsing
energy conservation since
the early 1970's and be-
lieves that energy conser-
vation must be an ongoing
way of life. ‘‘Conservation
must continue untill such
time as the nation formu-
lates a long-term energy
policy which can adequate-
ly deal with the increasing
demand for all forms of
energy to preserve our
economic health as a na-
tion,”’ he concluded.
Several local fuel oil
suppliers told this news-
paper that they anticipate
no shortages.
‘“Foreign Food Fest”’
A ‘‘Foreign Food Fest”
to be held Saturday, May
7, at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Miller, 111
Fairview Avenue, Marietta,
was planned at the monthly
meeting of the Marietta
Auxiliary to the Columbia
Hospital at the home of
Ruth Wisman. Mrs. Joseph
Gilmartin, president, con-
ducted the business meet-
ing. The group considered
the possibility of holding a
spring card party benefit.
Mrs. George Houseal
would chair the benefit.
Tentative plans call for
an ‘‘international food
market.”” Food and wines
from various countries of
the world will be served.
Rain date will be May 8th.
The February 14, meet-
ing will be held at the
home of Mrs. Ralph Youtz.
