John Detz, 68, of Fair-
view Ave., Marietta, just
got a military award from
the Belgian government
— 32 years too late.
Detz, who served as a
radio operator during the
Second World War, was
promised the medal (ac-
tually a shoulder braid) for
his services in the Battle of a
the Bulge, Hitler's last ue
-ditch effort to stop the in- 3
vasion of Germany. The
Allied troops were hard
pressed then. They ate cold
rations and slept in ditches
and barns for weeks at a
time.
After the War, the Bel-
gians seemed to forget
about Cpl. Detz’ decora-
tion. He tried to get it by
writing to the Pentagon,
but got no action. He
finally received his ‘‘foura-
gerre’’ after asking con-
gressman Ed Eshleman for
help.
The medal arrived last

We Get Carried Away
hen It's Time To Say Thank You.
How carried away can we get?
Well, we want to express a “Thank You for being our Customer” in
the sincerest way possible. But, if we get too carried away, we may end
up sounding insincere.
How do we convey a meaningful “Thank You”? One way: we show
you that we mean it.
In the past year, we've made an effort to provide the friendliest,
most efficient service possible. This year. we intend to try even harder.
We know that our continued better service is the best way to thank
you, every day, for banking with us. Good service is the best way to
show how much we appreciate you, our present customers, and our
future customers as well.
Please accept our sincere “Thank You”. We hope our relation-
ship will be a good one for many more years. We promise to do our best
to keep it that way.

John DeVitry of Lancas-
ter, formerly of Marietta,
recently returned from a
month in Thailland, where
he volunteered his skills to
design a much-needed hos-
pital for Thailand’s swarm
of refugees from Vietnam,
Laos, and Cambodia. The
displaced persons, about
110,000 in all, are living in
1S barb wire encircled
camps. Due to crowding
and lack of food and ade-
quate sanitation, a new
building is vital. The pres-
ent clinic has a dirt floor
and thatched roof.
DeVitry went as a volun-
teer with Tom Dooley
Heritage, Inc., a non-profit
group which continues the
work of the late Dr.
Dooley. Mr. DeVitry served
in Indochina 20 years ago
with Dr. Dooley after the
French pulled out of Viet-
nam, leaving the country in
a bad state.
Because of the scarcity of
funds, DeVitry designed a
hospital which can be built
at the lowest possible cost.
Its projected size is 11,000
are feet.
