New health center contracts are signed On Thursday, January 6, St. Joseph Hospital signed the contracts to construct the new Marietta-Maytown Family Health Center, lo- cated on the corner of Route 441 and Bank Street in Marietta. The successful contractor is V.L. Rendina, Inc., of Lancaster. Estimated completion date is on or before June 30, 1977. The Marietta-Maytown Center will be an adjunct to a new center opening at St.’ Joseph Hospital in Lancast- er. January 11 is the first. official day services will be offered in the new health care center at St. Joseph Hospital which in- cludes the Emergency Medical Services Depart- ment (EMSD), Family Health Center (FHC) and Diagnostic Screening Cen- ter (DSC). If an emergency occurs, a new facility stands ready to serve- promptly, efficiently, and capably. Located within the hospi- tal complex, the emergency department will be receiv- ing ambulances from all areas in addition to the St. Joseph Hospital Mobile Intensive Care Unit. The physical layout and person- nel maximize opportunities for resuscitation, decisive treatment and major trau- ma, and efficient diagnostic evaluation. Hang gliders to meet Lancaster County Hang Gliders Association will meet Jan. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Coca Cola Commun- ity Room, 248 Manheim Pike, Lancaster. All interested persons are invited to attend. Minor but urgent illness- es, for which appointments can never seem to be scheduled, will be handled in the convenient Walk-In Office. All ground floor activities will be coordinat- ed from an outpatient control desk at the main entrance, and will be man- ned by a receptionist and triage officer. The long awaited Family Health Center will practice primary care at its best, emphasized quality, easy access, continuity and comprehensiveness. Thru the combination of modern technology with compas- sionate, sensitive person- nel, the Family Health Center will be attempting to replace the fictitious Marcus Welby with reality. The Family Health Cen- ter will be used in the way someone would use a private doctor’s office. It is primarily for use by people who do not yet have a family doctor or who (for one reason or another) are dissatisfied with their cur- rent medical care and want a change. Finally, Sister M. Aug- ustine, O.S.F., will be supervising the technicians and activity in our Diagnos- tic Screening Center which will be a major benifit to family health care patients, hospital employees and lo- cal industrial employees alike.
