The Donegal High Pep Band cheerfully put ice-cold
metal mouthpieces to their lips last Sunday evening and
Christmas carols filled the frosty air at Mount Joy's
Memorial

rietta has proclaimed that
February 15, 1977 will be
Henry Rutherford Day. A
memorial service will be
held at 2:00 p.m. on that
day. Judge Wilson Bucher
will speak at Marietta War
Memorial Park beside the
trec already planted in
Rutherford’s memory by
the Restoration Associates.
The son of Naomi and
the late Edwin Rutherford,
Henry was an outstanding
student while in the Mari-
etta schools, being a mem-
ber of the Honor Society,
band, school paper, and
basketball team. He was
editor of the yearbook, the
**Mariettian.’’
Graduating in 1931,
Rutherford went on to
Dickinson College where he
won awards in journalism,
English, and leadership.
He was class president for
several years.
After a stint in the
Army, Rutherford became
a member of the Bar and
was appointed Assistant
District Attorney by Cla-
rence Newcomer, District
Attorney at the time.
While D.A.. Rutherford
was instrumental in estab-
lishing the Consumer Pro-
tection Commission, the
Tax Claims Bureau, and
the pollution strike force.
He was active in court
reform, helped legalize
Bingo for benefit purposes,
and opposed the death
penalty.
Henry Rutherford was
also active as a citizen. He
served as chairman of the
Lancaster Young Republi-

~The tree was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Mateer
of Mount Joy and was planted by Vo-tech students
under the direction of Mr. Little. At the ceremony, the
tree was lighted for the first time by Don Germer. Paul
Revere Gingrich and Mayor James Gingrich made a few
brief and cheerful remarks.

School Board: founder of
the Marietta Ambulance
Association; Trustee of the
First Methodist Church;
Director of the Marietta
Water Company; and Di-
rector of the Citizens’
Scholarship Foundation of
Lancaster.
Maytown Civic Assoc
urges all citizens
to attend meeting
The newly organized
Maytown Civic Association
will meet January 4 at 7:30
p.m. at the Township
Municipal Building. Offic-
ers elected at the No-
vember meeting will be in
charge. John H. Drace is
president.
All association members,
as well as citizens interest-
ed in the welfare of the
town, are urged to attend
the meeting.
He is survived by his
wife, the former Dolores
Ellicott, and their daugh-
ter, Ann.

Maytown Fire Co.
elects Robert Herr
The monthly meeting of
the Maytown Fire Company
was held on December 13,
1976.
The following

The fire company also
voted to obtain a separate
charter to operate the
Maytown Ambulance As-
sociation. The association is
to be self-sufficient but will
still be considered a part of
the Fire Company. The
ambulance will remain
housed in the firehouse.
The company voted to
purchase six new protective
helmets to replace defec-
tive equipment removed
from service. Fire chief
Charles Johns compliment-
ed fire company members
on their participation dur-
ing the Aircraft Accident
Drill conducted on Decem-
ber 12th.
Pioneer Fire Co.
elects Bill Bailey
The Marietta Pioneer
Fire Company has elected
new officers.
William Bailey, a 26-year
member of the organiza-
tion, was elected President.
He previously held the
office of Fire Chief.
Others elected were:

Holly Baker & Chris Spickler
win chairs in District Band
Holly Baker, a senior,
and Chris Spickler, a soph-
omore, both students at
Donegal High School, re-
cently won chairs at audi-
tions for District Band held
at Cedar Crest High
School.
Holly is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. James Bak-
er, Marietta. She placed
first chair on baritone sax.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren
Spickler, R.D. #2 Mount
Joy, placed on the flute.
Lower District Band will
be held in Ephrata on
February 10, 11, and 12.
