Mt. Joy council [cont’d.]
[continued from page 8]
discoverd that the tool
doesn’t fit into the cruiser
with the many other pieces
of equipment the police
carry.
A request by Dr. Eph-
raim Awad for a waiver of
the parking requirements
of the zoning ordinance
was discussed and a deci-
sion was made by council
to require the Borough
manager to inform Dr.
Awad that the animal
hospital he proposes would
be considered a conditional
use. Making a conditional
use rule gives council a
chance to get imput from
residents in the area before
a final decision is reached.
The property in question
is located at the rear of 75
East Main Street, the
former offices of the late
Dr. John Gates. It was
stated at last month’s
meeting that a garage at
the rear of the Main Street
address would be converted
to accommodate the animal
hospital. Members of coun-
cil were concerned about
how the residents of the
area would react and the
possibility of noise and
odors. Councilmen said
they would welcome Dr.
Awad to an open public

meeting where the doctor
could explain just how he
intends to operate the
hospital. Dr. Ephraim
Awad is a medical doctor
serving Mount Joy. His
brother is a veterinarian
and would be the operator
of the animal hospital.
