Fire prevention week was success Friendship Fire Co. No. 1, Mount Joy has termed Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 3-9) a success despite the inclement weather. The weather forced the cancel- lation of the mock accident in which the recently pur- chased Hurst Tool and Cardiac Monitor were to be featured. The vehicle acci- dent will be staged at a later date to be announced as there were many in- quires to when it would be rescheduled. School visits went over very well thanks to the cooperation of Seiler and Eimtree Elementary and W. I. Beahm Jr. High. The fire prevention com- mittee would like to thank the following for their ser- vices: 1. Greiner's Garage— for towing services. 2. Earl and Jack's Auto Parts— for supplying cars. 3. Uncle Al's Ceramic Shop— for prizes in the poster contest. 4. Reist Seed Company— for the use of the building during a drill. S. Ken Depoe— for printing. 6. Erma Buchenauer— for typing. 7. Ladies Auxiliary— for providing refreshments at the Monday night drill and open house. Pack 136 visits aluminum plant Pack 136 Cub Scouts attended open house at Howmet Aluminum Corp., Lancaster, PA. In charge was Robert W. Mark. Attending were Kenneth Good, Jr., Rick Hallgren, Andrew Wagner, Craig Shutter, Tony Ox- ford, Robert Brubaker, Keith Penkunas, Scott Houseal. Leisure Club sees Mad Hatter by Jos Shaeffer The Mount Joy Leisure Club held their meeting Monday, October 11, at Hostetters with 121 mem- bers and guests present. Mrs. Dorothy Parmer presented a program called “The Mad Hatter’’. Mrs. Parmer’s hats and cos- tumes delighted her aud- ience with a program of color, charm, and comedy. She has a distinguished career in most of Lancas- ter’s musical organizations as an officer or performing member. Todd Newcomer, Wayne Bucher, Thomas Waltz, Mark Wagner, John Auker, Kenneth Good, Sr., Billie Ann Oxford, and Carolyn Waltz. Drivers were: Frank Good and Ruth Zuschleg. On October 23 the Webe- los Den will meet at the First Presbyterian Church at 6:45 to go to ‘‘Scream in the Dark.” Pack 136 will go on a hike October 23 on the Appalachian Trail. They will meet at the Seiler Following Mrs. Parmer’s program, Arthur Braun gave the invocation and coffee and cake was serv- ed. President Shaeffer then called the business meeting to order. The secretary's report was given by Nedra Brandt and the treasurer’s report by Kathryn Zink. Mrs. Ella Germer of the Sunshine Committee re- ported 12 cards sent to shut-ins. Three new members were admitted, Vera Barton Helen Miller, and Mae Walters. One guest, Norma Murphy was present. School at 7:30 a.m. William Reuter will lead the hike. Mount Joy Cub Scout Pack 136 had a roller skating party at Mount Gretna Roller Rink. 72 attended this party. A committee meeting was held at the home of Carolyn Waltz. Attending were Robert W. Mark, John Auker, Dana Mark, Victor Wolf, Myron Weber, Walter Weidner, Shirley Good, Tina Beasacker, Edna Wolf, and Carolyn Waltz. President Shaeffer gave the final plans for the bus trip which was Wednesday, October 13. The November 8 meeting will be held at Hostetters and the men will do the serving and the. meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. At this meeting, the members will be asked to sign up for the Christmas party which will be held at Hostetters. The date is December 8. The program for this event will be the Kitchen Band. President Shaeffer announced that at the November meeting he will appoint a nominating committee. Youth ice hockey clinic by Ronald L. Kennard Clinics are being held this winter at the Hershey Park Outdoor Rink, starting November 13th and run- ning sixteen weeks. Instruction will be under the guidance of Ron Ken- nard, a former Hershey Jr. Bears player, now residing in Landisville. The clinics are being conducted for youngsters who have never skated and for those who desire to learn the basics before en- tering their first year of or- ganized hockey. Clinic enrollment is now underway. Youths, ages six thru ten, are invited to participate. Further inform- ation is available by calling Ron Kennard at (717) 898-8577.
