Evangelistic service at 2 Mt. Joy churches by W. Richard Kohler Two neighboring Mount Joy churches are jointly sponsoring a week of evan- gelistic services from Octo- ber 17th through the 22nd. The Mount Joy Church of God and St. Mark’s United Methodist Church have planned these meetings especially for the bicenten- nial year. They have gone all out to secure a preacher of worldwide stature and acclaim in the person of Mr. Bernard Briscoe of England. Born in Cumberland, England in 1934, the younger brother of Evan- gelist Stuart Briscoe, he began public preaching at the age of 18 when he was serving in the Royal Navy. Choosing banking as a career and a vehicle to enable him to preach in leisure time, he worked closely with Capernwary Missionary Fellowship, both in England and at their centers in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. His career in banking pro- spered and by 1970 he held an executive position in one of the world’s largest banking groups. Since then he has been devoting the whole of his energies to communicating the Gospel around the world. Mr. Briscoe will preach nightly from Sunday through Friday. The ser- vices will be conducted in the sanctuary of St. Mark's Church, 27-29 East Main Street, Mount Joy. A song- service will begin each evening at 7:15 p.m., under the direction of Mr. Donald Koller; the devo- tional time and preaching will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Choirs from the two churches will combine for special music. There will be other special musical selections throughout the week. Each morning at 10 a.m., Mr. Briscoe will direct a study group for growth in discipleship. A Men’s Breakfast will be held on Wednesday morning, Octo- ber 20th, at 6:30 a.m. The community is cordi- ally invited to participate in the good things of God at these meetings. A Youth Night on Satur- day evening at 7:30 p.m., featuring a dramatic mono- logue by Rev. William Groff and music by the Joy Singers, will conclude the week’s activities.
