Page 12 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES Obituaries MRS. ANNA E. STOKES Mrs. Anna E. Stokes, 66, formerly of Mount Joy died Tuesday at St. Joseph Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Kurtz Stokes who died in 1972. Her first husband, David Mumper died in 1964. A guest at Oreville Men- nonite Nursing Home for the past two months, Mrs. Stokes previously was a guest at Lehman’s Nursing Home, Rheems. She was a member of Evangelical Congregational Church, Mount Joy, and a life member of Mount Joy Friendship Fire Company Auxiliary. Born in and a resident of Mount Joy most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lizzie Hinkle Weber. She is survived by three children, Richard L. Mum- per, Needham Heights, MA; Mrs. Jean Ginder, Lancaster; and Nancy, wife of Lester Meyers, Mount Joy; 10 grandchidren, one great-grandson, and a sis- ter, Mrs. Esther Hocken- berry, Mount Joy. MISS SARA HABECKER Miss Sara H. Habecker, 91, of 120 Delta Street, Mount Joy, died Thursday at 1 p.m., in White Hall Nursing and Convalescent Centre, Lancaster, follow- ing a lengthy illness. Born in West Hempfield Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph H. and Mary Nissley Ha- becker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mount Joy, and the Philadelphia Presbyter- ian Hospital's Nurses’ Alumni Association. She graduated from Maytown High School in 1902, then went on to graduate from Millersville State Teachers College in the early 1900’s. She taught school for several years, then entered the Philadelphia Presbyter- ian Hospital's School of Nursing, graduating in 1918. During World War 1, she served in the U.S. Army Nursing Corps. After the war she was a nurse at a children’s hospital in Birm- ingham, Ala., until around 1932. From then, until her retirement in 1954, she was a social service worker at the Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. On her 91st birthday on August 28, Miss Habecker declared, ‘‘I've tried to live the life that I was teaching children to accept and live.” The oldest in a family of seven children, she said she switched from the teaching to the nursing profession as a young woman because she didn’t earn enough money as a teacher to help support her young brothers and sisters. Surviving are three sis- ters, Mrs. Mary H. Stauf- fer, Elizabethtown; Mrs. Barbara E. Fellei.baum; and Helen H., wife of John M. Booth, both of Mount Joy. ~ HENRY BRUBAKER Henry E. Brubaker, 84, died unexpectedly Saturday evening at his home in Mount Joy Rl. He has been under the care of a physician. Born in East Donegal Township, he was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Erb Brubaker. He was the husband of Esther Leaman Brubaker. His first wife, Anna Miller Brubaker, died in 1943. He had been retired from farming for 20 years. He was a member of the Mount Joy Mennonite Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, John Henry Brubaker, of Mount Joy Rl, J. Omar Brubaker, of Zion, IIl., and Harland E. Brubaker, of Washington, D.C., and two daughters, Mrs. Frances B. Hadecker, of Palmyra, Helen B., wife of Wilmer G. Kiraydill, of Elverson. He is also survived by a brother, Elmer E. Bru- baker, of Mount Joy RI, and two sisters, Mary B., wife of John L. Hess, of Mount Joy, and Hanna B., wife of Elam M. Musser of Columbia R1, 17 grand- children, and 14 great- grandchildren. JUDITH McKONLY The marriage of Miss Judith E. McKonly to Bruce J. Freidly, High and Bainbridge Streets, May- town, took place Saturday, October 9, at 6 p.m., at the Hempfield United Metho- dist Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. James Cor- bett officiating. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John H. McKonly, 3651 Horizon Drive. She was graduated from Hempfield High School and is employed by A. W. Reese, Attorney-at- law. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William P. Freidly, 526 W. Lemon Street. He was graduated from McCaskey High School and is employ- ed by Armstrong Cork Company. Miss Melinda McKonly, sister of the bride, Lancas- ter, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Cynthia M. Kahler, sister of the bride, Bainbridge, and Miss Kathleen M. Mc- Konly, sister of the bride, Lancaster. Serving as best man was Barry P. Freidly, brother of the bridegroom, Elizabeth- town. Ushers were Randy L. Seachrist, Lancaster, and Steven E. Hoffman, Millersville. The couple will live in Maytown.
