Page 16 - SUSQUEHANNA TIMES Donegal Indians prevail 13-7 in tough gridiron performance 2 v , The Donegal Indians conquered Manheim Cen- tral 13-7 last Saturday. The hard-fought contest marked the undefeated In- dians’ 3rd win this season. Manheim Centrals’ Bar- on's moved the ball well on the ground, picking up 209 rushing yards to Donegal’s 38, and 16 first downs to Donegal’s 7. Donegal owed most of its yardage to Kevin Bradley’s throwing arm. The Indian quarterback hurled the football 13 times and hit his target 9 times, for a total of 120 passing yards. The offensive line, led by center Jeff Alexander, gave Bradley the protection he needed to complete those passes. Donegal’s defense per- formed beautifully all afternoon. Linebacker Mike Carroll tallied 10 tackles and 9 assists. Tackle Mike Head coach Gayne Deshler tells quarterback Kevin Bradley what to do next. Bradley completed 9 of 13 passes in the game, for a total of 120 yards. A 1S yard penalty against the Barons, a 7 yard run by Al Newlin, and a 16 yard pass to Bill Gainer put DHS on the scoreboard. Pete Splain booted the extra point. In the third period, the Barons drove deep into In- dian territory. They ended up within spitting distance of the goal line, with a first down. The Indian defense stop- ped them. Greg Gallagher executed a perfect tackle that may have saved the game for DHS. Head coach, Gayne Deshler said, ‘“‘If it had been a bad tackle, that guy's momentum might just have taken them in for a touchdown. Greg stopped him cold.” The Barons bounced off Donegal’s defensive line as if they were hitting a brick wall. On their 4th down attempt, the Baron with the football found himself buri- ed under Mike Carroll, Marlin Emenheiser, and Pete Splain. Central finally scored early in the 4th period, tie- ing the score at 7-7. The Donegal to Hempfield. McCaskey got the ball rolling with two goals in the first quarter. Pete Splain ran from the ten for the winning touch- down. The Donegal offense suf- fered from the absense of Darryl Houseal, who sat out the game because of injuries.
