Donegal Braves midget team wins
two, ties one in opening games
by David Miller
On Sunday September S,
the Donegal Braves Midget
Football Team started out
their 1976 season with a
strong showing against
Solanco at the Donegal
High School Field. The
““B’”’ Team put on a good
display of offense with 2
touchdowns by Risberg on
the ground and a pass from
Lucabaugh to Shawn Max-
well for another, also 2
point conversion pass from
Risberg to Scott Snyder.
Long runs by Ron Kennedy
and Scott Hoover with Ris-
berg passing to Kennedy
and Snyder kept the Solan-
co defense off guard
through out the game. The
defense was very strong
causing six turn overs with
pass interceptions by
Kennedy, Lucabaugh, &
Maxwell and fumble recov-
ery by Hoover along with
strong tackeling by Wag-
ner, Burger, Armold, Sny-
der, and Yohe. The final
score was Donegal 20 and
~ Solanco 0.
The “A” Team started
out just as strong with a 60
yard run by Darin Kolp on
the third play of the game,
which was nullified by a
penality. The score was
soon 8—0 with a 4Syard
run by Neal and a 2 point
pass from Todd Butz to
Neal. In the Second Quart-

touchdowns, with a run and
a pass from Butz. Kolp

Bashore led the defense
and play good throughout,
but was finally scored on
with 2:30 left in the game
on a S50 yard pass play.

down but a few plays later
Solanco . scored and the
game ended Donegal 21
and Solanco 8.
PVT Julie Kanoff,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Michael Kanoff of 9 West
Elizabeth Street, Maytown,
has successfully completed
Basic Combat Training at
Fort McClellan, Alabama.
PVT Kanoff enlisted in the
U.S. Army on July 14, 1976
following her graduation
from Donegal High School.
Julie enlisted under the
guaranteed training enlist-
ment option and chose to
attend The Medical Labor-
atory Specialist Course,
conducted at Fort Sam
Houston, Texas, where she
is currently assigned. Dur-
ing her 15 weeks of train-
The “‘C’ Team played
last and did not fare as
well as their older team
members; although they
had the ball 16 minutes of
the 24 minute game the
offense with Shelly, Miller,
Brenner, and Rice running
the ball could not get the
ball across the goal line.
The defense was strong:
and allowed almost no
yardage at all to Solanco
ing in the Medical Field,
Julie will learn bloodbank-
ing, and laboratory proce-
dures related to a variety of
medical areas. - Following
her graduation from this
school, PVT Kanoff will be
given her choice of several
locations for her permanent
duty assignment.
According to the Army
Recruiters stationed in
Elizabethtown and Julies’
parents her decision to
enter the U.S. Army,
although a very difficult
decision, is the most satis-
ifying career she could
have picked.
Good tackles and hard
nosed football was played
by Kauffman, Yohe, Sana
Sante, Brady, Edgell, Al-
bright, Miller, Rice, and
Brenner. With 3 seconds
left the Little Braves were
still trying to push the ball
across the goal line, but
time ran out and they had
to settle for a tie. Final
score 0—0.
