Donegal conquered E-town 20-16 in this fall's football season opener. The Indians led: 20-0 until the closing minutes of the first half, when an 11 play, 60 yard drive put the Bears on the scoreboard. E-town scored again in the third quarter. After that, neither team was able to reach the end zone. Donegal’s first touch- down was scored by Pete Splain, who hauled in a pass from quarterback, Kevin Bradley, then danc- ed past several charging Bears for 29 yards and 6 points. The Indian defense play- ed a particulary outstand- ing game, blocking 3 punt attempts. Mike Carroll knocked down an E-town punt and put the Indians in scoring position, but the DHS offense was stalled short of the goal line. The Bears took over the football, but were equally unable to move. When E-town tried to punt a second time, Arlan Mumma slapped the ball from the air, and Marlin Emenheiser recovered it in the end zone for a TD. Al Newlin was respons- ible for the 3rd blocked E-town punt of the after- noon. His recovery put Donegal on the Bears’ 14 yard line. The Indians picked up a first down, then Newlin capped his achievement by carrying the ball across the goal line. Darryl Houseal scored the 2 point conversion.
