Some local opinions on going back to school
A study in contrasts. The brunette, Deb Graham of 157
“linore Drive, Maytown, is looking forward to 10th
rade at D.H.S. “*Summer’s been boring,” she told us.
his year she made basketball cheerleading. The blond,
erry Haines of 17 S. River St., Maytown, wants to go
back "not at all,”” unless they install a pool at the high
school.
Todd Fitzkee will be a 9th grader this year. He likes
school, especially math and gym, and feels that he’s
learning a lot. He would like to see more personal
freedom for students, such as being permitted to chew
sum in school. Todd is 14 years old. He lives at Box 104,
R.D. #1, Marietta.
These girls all like school! They are, left to right, Stacy Charles, 4; and Judy Charles, 8. All are of R.D. #1,

Marietta.
Vince Curry, of 118 W. Market St., Marietta, is going
into 9th grade. He considered dropping out, but his
family and friends (some of whom are themselves
dropouts) told him to stick with it. “Some teachers can
be a hassle,”’ he said, ‘‘but I like to finish something I
start. Besides, my friends tell me there’s nothing
happening on the street---not even parties.’’ Vince wants
to be a football star at Donegal.
Gregg Gerber, 15, of 545 Donegal Springs Road,
Mount Joy, is looking forward to a good time in Vo-Tech
when he enters 10th grade. He will study Graphic Arts,
which he feels will be preferable to ‘‘teachers lecturing
all the time.”’

After working as a gardener this summer, Gloria
Longenecker will return to Lebanon Valley College as a
junior. *‘I dread the first week back,”’ she told us,
“‘there’s always lots of tryouts for band and choir.
Everything's hectic. After that I'll be back in the
groove.” Her friend Charley has never been to school,
and is totally illiterate.
First grade will be fun for Wendy Pekarek, of Mount
Joy. Why? “I'm going to sit next to Donna.’”’ Donna is
her sister.
