walked into work last Wed-
nesday, he was surprised
by his secretary’s greeting.
“*Hi, Merv!” she said.
The secretary had seen
her boss picked as one of
five Merv Griffin lookalikes
while watching the ‘‘Merv
Griffin Show’ the night
before.
It all started last Spring
when Kenneth’s neighbor,
Ruth Arnold, took a picture
of him and sent it to Holly-
wood after hearing of the
Demos.
contest. Ken didn’t hear
any more about it until he
went to work last week (he
and his family often watch
Merv Griffin, but they
missed it that particular
day).
Since then he has re-
cieved a letter on embossed
Merv Griffin Productions
stationery, from Robert J.
Murphy, the show's man-
ager. Mr. Murphy is offer-
ing Kenneth not only a
Vivitar pocket camera, but
also an all-expenses-paid,

fund raising picnic
The Committee to Elect
Democrats in 76 is spon-
soring its first fund-raising
(and fun-raising) event at
Lancaster County Park on
Sunday, July 11. Every-
thing begins at twelve noon
and the day’s festivities in-
clude food (good old picnic
fare such as Polish Sausage
corn on the cob, water-
melon, and iced tea), a
bake sale, games for adults
and children, and music for
everybody. The park’s very

large swimming pool and
its other recreational facili-
ties are available.
Several Democratic
candidates from around the
county will be attending
the event during the course
of the day; activities will
conclude at six p.m., and
everyone is welcome to
attend. Enter from the
main entrance on Chesa-
peake Street and look for
the first pavilion along the
drive to the right.

Ken isn’t sure if he'll go
yet. He just got back from
a four-week cross-country
vacation trip to (among
other places) California. ‘I
might have timed it differ-
ently if I'd known what was
going on,’ he said.

maybe they also look like

Merv Griffin!). At Reich’s
Church, another member of
the congregation resembles
him so much that people
have addressed Ken by the
other man’s name.
“‘People mentioned my
resemblance to Merv Grif-
fin more frequently in the
past,”’ Ken says. “We had
the same hairstyle then.”
And when did his wife
first notice the similarity?
‘I alway thought he looked
like Kenneth, myself,’’ she
said.
