Chiques super shortstop, Jean Shelly hit a grandslam while their 1st baseman, Joyce Shenk made an out- standing catch on a tough fly ball. In the second game, Farm Diner beat Heistand’s Chry/Ply.—27 to S. Leading the hitting department for Farm Diner were pitcher, Shirley McLaughlin and right fielder Jill Starr, each going 5 for 6. Relief 2nd baseman, Bev Kannegeis- zer added her power bat- ting 3 for 3 with a triple, double and a single. Heis- tand’s 2nd baseman, Chris Mohr hit a well earned triple along the right field base line. The third contest saw Marietta playing E-Town Merchants and walking away with the game—24 to 1. It was a terrific game for Marietta’s pitcher, Rae Ann Parker. She gave up only 5S hits and one run in S innings of play. Rae Ann also hit 2 doubles while batting 4 for S. Butch Kulp, Marietta’s power hitter had another terrific night, hitting S for 6 with 4 doubles, and a home rup to the center field fence. Tuesday evening there were 2 games, one with Chapman’s Apparel meet- ing Heistand’s Chry/Ply. at Newville field. Chapmans took the game 30 to 12 with Lori Williams hitting 2 home runs collecting a total of 7 RBI's. Chapmans, Bernie Gish had several fantastic ‘‘saves’’ in center field. Heading batting de- partment for Heistands was 3rd baseman, Donna Mc- Naughton hitting a home run and Malva Flowers, center fielder, adding a triple. . Tuesday evening also saw the season’s upset with Sth place E-town Merchants topping Chiques Church of the Brethren 4 to 3. This was Chiques first loss in 2 years. Both teams played really good defen- sive ball. E-town Mer- chants pitcher, Lena Baker, kept Chiques to 11 hits and 3 runs, while Marie Hud- zick led the offense batting 3 for 4. Marie drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 7th. Judy Zabiaski and Wendy, ‘‘Mighty Mite® Wolfe both hit 2 for 3 for the Merchants. Chiques left fielder, 14 year old Lucy Ginder, pulled every- thing out of the air while her sister Louise Ginder at 2nd base stopped several fantastic line drives. Lucy also paced the offense bat- ting 3 for 3. Wednesday night saw 2 contests, one with Chap- man’s Apparel at Marietta, Marietta came out on top 26 to ¢ to move into first place. Marietta had 2 gals batting S for 6, Sharon Bryant and Loris Raber. Sharon, their catcher, hit two doubles while Loris smacked 2 earned home runs, one a grand slam. Loris must like her center field position because she hit both her home runs to the center field fence. Marietta is one of the *‘hit- tingest’’ teams in the leaque, keeping Chapman's outfielders, Patti Hampton and Bernie Gish busy. Hitting doubles for Chap- man’s to pace the offense were Jean Shearer at Ist and Bernie Gish in center. Also on Wednesday evening, Farm Diner played Mount Joy with Farm Diner coming out on top 9 to 5S. Both teams were very evenly matched. Farm Diner had 9 runs on 16 hits and Mount Joy had S runs on 14 hits. Farm Diner's relief pitcher, Barb Reuter pitched 3 innings of hitless ball. Farm Diner's speedy center fielder, Dottie Kraft caught everything remotely close to her. Sylvia Sump- man, Farm Diner pitcher and left fielder, hit 2 triples into deep right field just inside the base line. Thursday evening, E-town Merchants faced Heistand’s Chry/Ply. with the Merchants coming out on top 28 to 2. Several girls had a good night to bat for the Merchants with Marie Hudzick hitting a grand- slam and Dawn Dochter- man hitting 2 doubles.
