2, 197% May 12, 1976 New Church to be dedicated Saturday The Reverend Russell Williams, District Superin- tendent of the Assemblies of God Churches, will be the speaker for the Dedication Services of the newly con- structed church at route 141 and Ormine Road, Marietta, on Saturday, May 15, at 2:30 p.m. The Reverend Leroy Hoover, Pastor will present special music. The church, formerly known as Marantha Chapel. began when a group of Christians met in September 1934, a business meeting was held to organize an assembly. Nineteen charter members signed their names for this purpose. Of these original charter mem- bers these persons are still attending: Mr. and Mrs. John Gusler and Mr. and . Mrs. Aaron Gottshall, and Paul Gottshall. In 1935, an old school house was rented, at 524 East Market Street, Mari- etta, and sessions were held there until 1937 when ‘Old Zion Church” was rented from the Marietta Boro. In 1946, Marantha Chapel was affiliated with the Assem- blies of God. The church cas incorporated in 1960 and became the Assemblies of God Church of Marietta. The Reverend Thomas R. Brubaker organized the congregation and the first Friendship Fire Co. holds meeting The monthly meeting of the Friendship Fire Co. No. 1 was brought to order by President Estock at 7:30 p.m. Chief, Frank Good report- * ed 7 fire calls and 4 service calls for April. April 8, Friendship responded to a brush fire in Mount Joy; ‘April 10, the dept. was called to a residence in the Boro for a malfunctioned oil burner. A car fire was reported on East Main Street, April 12. The com- pany responded to 2 trash fires in Rapho Twp. on April 17. A rag in a light fixture caused a small fire at Seiler School on April 21 and April 29, the dept. assisted Rheems on a. barn fire. Chief Engineer, Tom Markley reported Howard Mott and Bill Martin as new engineers. “Richard Miller was taken into the dept. as an active member. Purchase of batteries for the walkie-talkie and 4 radio helmets, 8 pair of boots and 6 helmets were approved. The meeting was ad- journed at 9:50 p.m. DHS boys to be sponsored by Miz. Steve Eno, Kevin Brad- ley, Kris McCue, and Randy McCoy have been selected to represent Donegal High School at ‘‘Keystone Boys State’’ held at PA State University. The purpose of the ‘“‘Key- stone Boy's State’’ is to develope young leaders for our communities. Kevin, Kris, and Randy will be sponsored by the American Legion of Mount Joy. Also sponsored by the Mount Joy American Legion Joy American Legion are Mike McMullen, Keith Gephart, and Greg Gallagh- er. Mike, Keith, and Greg were chosen to represent Donegal High School at the ‘State Police Youth Week." Steve Eno will be spon- sored by the Marietta American Legion. American Legion baseball team to hold first meeting Sunday The first meeting of the American Legion, Post 185, baseball team will be Sun- day, May 16 at 2 p.m. at the Legion Post Home. Anyone between 16 and 18 wishing to play should attend. Manager is Doug Avers. Business Manager is Jim Buehler. Coaches are Stan Frey and Jim Sargen. Schedule: Tues. May 2S - Final paper drive to by Donegal The final paper drive of this term will be conducted on Saturday, May 15, from 8 to 11 a.m., for the Donegal Band Parents club. If a donor has a large amount it can be picked up by calling 653-4910. Last call for Colgate labels is also on May 15th. Profits from the two projects will be contributed toward the Band camp which wil be held in Gettysburg, August 16 to 21.
