Sho- walter, Jr., 251 West Market Street, Marietta, by Mrs. Robert Spangler, a member of the committee. The Showalters’ home built in the early 19th century, is constructed of logs in the original struc- ture. Recently redecorated in Williamsburg gold, the solid front door is topped with a diamond sunburst transom. A natural board fence replaces the hedge across the yard. Plantings are surrounded with wood chips for low maintenance. Although the current owners are not purists, some antiques are used in the furnishings. A bake oven in the cellar is under the sidewalk; hardware is announced the the early German lock/latch type “requiring large keys for the doors. Originally 4 fireplaces were within the house—two oper- able ones remain. The clapboard is of German shiplock siding. The stairway is said to be the type found in the General Hand house at Rockford. The 9 over 6 window lights authenticate 257 West Market Street as an early structure. The award, a framed certificate, will be given each month to the home- owner who receives the most votes by members of the committee. Suggestions from the public are wel- comed. The final decision, however, lies with the cominittee headed by Ken Ross. Mrs. Anna Powers, 210 East Market Street, Mari- etta, was the receipient of the April recognition.
