Mayor Barney McDevitt started cleaning up his property
last week, after proclaiming the period before May 1 as
annual clean up, fix up and paint up time in Marietta.
After May 1, the mayor said, ordinances on trash, weeds
and litter will be strictly enforced.
DHS Band concert
by Hazel Baker
The Donegal High School
Band, conducted by Glen
Leib, will be presenting its
annual concert in the Done-
gal High School auditorium
on Saturday, April 24, at 8
p-m. This year’s theme will
be ‘‘Bicentennial Blos-
soms’’. The band members
will be traveling to Win-
chester, VA April 29, 30,
and May 1 to participate in
the Apple Blossom Festival
Parade and they will per-
form a stand-up concert on
the Capital steps, Washing-
ton, DC.
Melody Mumma
This year’s spring concert
will include such numbers
as a Lennon-McCartney
medley, the tune Cherish,
George Washington Bicen-
tennial March by Sousa and
several solo’s by various
senior band members.
Tickets will be available
from any band member and
Kevin Milligan
at the door the night of the
performance. The prices are
$1.00 for adults and $.50 for
students.
Soloists will be Kevin
Milligan on Trombone, and
Debra Hay on clarinet
accompanied by the band,
and Melody Mumma, flute,
with a wind emsemble
accompaniment.

Recital to benefit
Columbia Hospital
Luke Grubb, assistant
professor of music at Mil-
lersville State College and
organist at the First Re-
formed Church, Lancaster,
will present a harpsicord
recital for the ‘‘Sounds
and Spirits of 76°’ a benefit
sponosred by the Marietta
Auxiliary to the Columbia
Hospital. The event will be

held on the lawn of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Miller, 111
Fairview Avenue, Marietta,
from 3 to 7 p.m. On
Saturday, May 8. Rain date
Sunday, May 9th at the
same time.
A colonial menu featuring
the foods and drinks of our
forefathers will be served in
addition to a display of
bazaar items, home baked
and prepared foods, crafts,
and white elephant goods. A
"76 hand made afghan will
be awarded.
The public is invited to
attend.
Currently Luke Grubb is
director of the Columbia
Bicentennial chorus and the
Madrigal singers of Millers-
ville College. He is a former
music teacher in the Colum-
bia School District where he
also resides.
Spring Carnival at Donegal
DHS Spring Carnival May 1st
The annual Spring Carni-
val, sponsored by the
various clubs of Donegal
High School, will be held on
Saturday, May 1, 1976, on
the front lawn of the high
school, beginning at 12
noon.
Among the many planned
activities for the afternoon
are bake sales, food con-
cessions, games of skill, a
white elephant table, and
other fun activities.
All proceeds from the
carnival are used by the
clubs to underwrite the cost
of their projects throughout
the school year.
The rain date has been set
for May 8.
Fellowship dinner
A Fellowship Dinner with
the Schirmers, sponsored by
the Marietta Pioneer Fire
Company, will be held in the
Fire Company rooms on
Saturday, May 1st at 6:30
p.m. The benefit is open to
the public and will be
prepared by the Auxiliary to
the Pioneer Fire Company.
The Reverend and Mrs.
Arthur Schirmer will pre-
sent special music and
entertainment. Tickets may
be obtained by calling
426-1622 at a cost of $2.50
per adults and $1.00 for
children.
Joycee-ettes tea

Plans are still being final-
ized for the Club Women’s
Tea to be held Sunday, May
2, from 3-5 p.m., at
Hostetters Banquet Hall.
The tea sponsored by the
Mount Joy Joycee-ettes
honors all womens organi-
zations in the Mount Joy
area and gives special re-
cognition to the woman who
has devoted her time,
talents, and ideals for the
betterment of her commun-
ity.
A special committee of 5
will evaluate all nominations
and make the final selection.
Joycee-ettes planning the
event are Sandy Gingrich &
Joanne Nolt, Chairmen,
Joanne Fry, Crystal Fackler,
Sharon Funk, Sue Thomas,
Joanne Aument, Nancy
Krentzing, Jo Ann Fry-
moyer and Harriet Ney.

DHS in track meet
The Donegal High School
track and field team com-
peted in the S0th annual
Shippensburg Interscholas-
tic Track and Field Meet.
The meet was held at
Shippensburg State College
in the Seth Grove Stadium
on Saturday, April 17.
Donegal student, Stan
Curry, came in 2nd in the %
mile run with a time of 50.6.
Donegal came in fourth in
the 2 mile relay race. The
first runner was Phil Mitz-
kavich, second was Henry
Klugh, third was Joe Mes-
zaros, and fourth was Phil
Wolgemuth. Their time was
8:24.18.
Donegal came in 6th in
the 1 mile relay where the
top six scored for the team
championship.
Donegal’s team competed
with SO other teams.
