Page 10—SUSOUEHANNA TIMES Umpire clinic to start by Hazel Baker An umpire training clinic for boys and girls over 16 years of age, will be conducted by a staff headed by Banks Wagner, Marietta, and sponsored by the Marietta Youth Athletic Association. ‘‘The main purpose of the clinic is to update the officiating of small girls and midget-mid- get boys leagues this sum- mer,’ said Jerry Cranford, chairman of the umpire committee. He also said he wanted to ‘‘give some youths who have outgrown the baseball program a chance to earn some mon- ey.’ Anyone interested in joining the training session should contact either Wag- ner at 426-3748 or Cranford, W. Market St., Marietta. Registration for girls 8 to 21 and bovs 8 to 16 will be held March 27 and April 3. The final sign up will be April 24 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Marietta Community House. Players must bring a $2.00 registration fee, for which the player receives a $2.75 baseball cap and insurance coverage. Persons signing for the first time must bring their birth certificates. President William Miller conducted the session held March 11 in the Community House. He appointed a grounds keeping committee to be chaired by Mervin Gutshall and Boots Splain. Work on the baseball diamonds will commence as soon as weather permits. All assistance will be greatly appreciated. The next MYAA meeting will be held April 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Community House.
