Lester Koder, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mount Joy, for thirty eight years, submitted his resignation te the congregation during the annual meeting Sunday. Termination of his pastorate becomes effective May 31, however, Rev. Koder’s fare- well service will be present- ed May 2. Rev. Koder is the twenty- fifth pastor of the Mount Joy church whose charter dates te 1827. The couple plan te move into their new home which is under construction near the Mount Joy Vo-Tech school. After it is completed and liveable, they will plan future projects. Mrs. Koder, a former teacher of Business at Manheim Central High School for 18 years, now retired, is kept busy with church and civic projects. She hopes te indulge in photography, travel, and sewing when her duties are completed. Koder’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and traveling. The couple, who have visited every state except Alaska and Louisiana, plan to visit their son and family in North Carolina. Pastor Koder reminisced: with the interviewer of his 38 years as minister. He recalled that when he came in February, 1923, from Bucks County, a row of five houses stood opposite the front door of the church. Here choir practices, Sunday school classes, and council sessions were held in two of the houses, which since have been demolished. Many sessions were also held in the parsonage. When the Koders were interviewed for the Mount Joy Pastorate, one of the re- quirements was that the wife assist with the pastor’s duties. Pastors served as janitors, counselors, lead- ers, choir members, and secretary, as well as being preachers. Under Rev. Koder’s lead- ership, the Trinity Lutheran Church acquired a new education building and an addition to the sanctuary. Rev. Koder was called to the ministry at an early age. If he could re-live his youth, he would follow the same calling.
