976 ) f February 4, 1976 Abe Groff Groff named commissioner Abram Groff, Mount Joy, was recently appointed by the Lancaster County Commissioners to a four year term on the Lancaster County Planning Commission. He was also elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer by the Planning Commission. Groff represents Region 4, covering the municipalities of Elizabethtown, Lititz, Manheim, Marietta and Mount Joy, and the townships of Conoy, East Donegal, Elizabeth, Mount Joy, Rapho, Penn, Warwick and West Donegal. Discuss community development application for 1976. | 0 Lil [Re il { a y Nl Parents hear Mr. Lawrence Mr. James Lawrence, Principal of Maytown Ele- mentary Schoel recently spoke at the January meet- ing of the Parents and Teachers in Partnership of Maytown Scheel. Mr. Law- rence described how the elementary scheol fits into the state educational sys- tem. He discussed the ‘‘quality continuous progress’ ed- ucation which occurs in our local elementary school sys- tem. Grading, communica- tion, and discipline were alsc among the topics covered by Mr. Lawrence in his presentation and in the questicn and answer period which followed. Sylvia Herr, fund raising chairman, reported that the Colgate School Action Plan will go inte action in the near future. Mothers will be asked to save the labels of Colgate products which will be redeemed for cash by the parents’ group. Funds will be used for school equip- ment. Topic of discussion for the February meeting of the Parents and Teachers in Partnership will be student safety and the safety patrol program. The company, according to Mr. Bailey, was origin- ated in 1940 by three Mount Joy men. It burned in 1871 and was rebuilt at a new location in 1871. In 1881 it was reorganized as Grey Iron Company Limited. In 1896 the foundry was moved to East Donegal Street. Finally, the foundry NF Np yy © with her again. The chief products were mechanical banks, trivets, miniature cooking utensils, stoves, replicas of dells, and novelties. In 1903, the National Novelty Company acquired the business. World War 11 closed the foundry and torpede trucks were manu- factured. This also brought about the hiring of wemen to paint the trucks. In 1944, the company changed from defense pre- duction to toys. In 1962, a three story office and showroom was added to the establishment.
