Bicentennial registers merchants in bocklet by Cheryll Hallgren Local merchants are now being contacted by Denegal students under the super- vision of Melody Mumma to have their names and businesses registered in the historical bocklet to be published by the Mount Joy Bicentennial Commission. They will apear under the heading of ‘‘Merchants Ser- ving Mecunt Jey in 1976.” A patrons list will alse be accepted for citizens wish- ing to have their names listed in the publieation. The becklet will contain maps of old Mount Joy, residences, hotels, churches industries, and street scenes plus captions pertaining to the town’s history. The committee is however, lack- ing photographs in several areas: Old Florin, street scenes, and residences. Citizens are being asked to contact Mrs. Patrick Moran if they wish te contribute old photoes to be used in the publication. The Bicentennial Com- mission will held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 14 at 7:30 in the Bore Building. The public is invited to attend. Knorr announces reduced car fees for elderly Justice Raymond B. Knorr, Mount Joy, an- nounces that applications forms for reduced registra- tion fees for motor vehicles for senior citizens will be available in his office after January 20th. The provisions of Section 702 of the Vehicle Code of PA Bureau of Motor Ve- hicles has recently been amended, making these reduced registration fees available to retired persons with incomes not exceeding $7,500, and removing oper- ator restrictions. Formerly, the income figure was $3,500, and the person registering the ve- hicle had te be the driver of the vehicle. Marietta Carpet Plant calls back 27 workers The Marietta Carpet Plant of Armstrong Cork Com- pany has announced the recall of 27 employees who had been furloughed in November and the hiring of about 25 additional em- ployees. Richard A. Graff, plant manager, attributed the expanded employment to “increase activity in the plant as our business grows compared with the last quarter of 1975.” Armstrong’s Marietta Carpet Plant, which began production operations in 1968, is now one of the few facilities in the carpet industry capable of manu- facturing all of the most popular types of residential, do-it-yourself, and commer- cial-grade carpeting. Behling The Mount Joy Jaycees will culminate their 25th Anniversary Jaycee Week celebrations with the 19th annual Distinguished Ser- vice Award Banquet Satur- day, January 24, 6 p.m., at the Mount Joy American Legion. A young man, 18 to 35, from the Mount Joy area, will be recognized for out- standing service to the community and high per- sonal development during 1975. Other community citi- zens will receive special recognition for their con- tributions. Nominations for the Distinguished Service Award have been received in secret, and the winner will be selected by a panel of prominent local citizens. Speaker for the evening will be Dr. CG. Terry Madonna of Lancaster, Associate Professor of His- tory at Millersville State College, former Lancaster County Commissioner, and a member of the Lancaster County Bicentennial Speak- ers Bureau. Dr. Madonna will present a program on Lancaster County During the American Revolution. The public is invited to attend and support the community recognition of a young man for his contrib- utions to the betterment of Mt. Joy.
