Mount Joy Stamp Club celebrates
borough’s 125 years with cachet
Mount Joy will celebrate
its 125th birthday on Febru-
ary 10.
On that date, the Mount
Joy Stamp Club will issue a
limited edition of 2000
commemorative cachets.
(A cachet is a fancy
envelope.)
The cachets, designed by
Stamp Club president Jee
Shaeffer and his wife,
Gracie, picture an early
Mount Joy post office, the
goed ship Mount Joy, and
an American flag. A card
with a brief history of Mount
Joy is included in each
cachet.
One thousand cachets will
be stamped and postmarked
Q 1851
at the pest office on
February 10. These will be
sold by the stamp club for 50
cents each.
Another 1000 cachets,
unpostmarked, will be sold
at 3 for a dollar.
According te Joe Shaef-
fer, the cachets will become
valuable in the future, since
only a limited number are
being issued.
Joe Shaeffer is a collector
of Mount Joy memorabilia.
His cellection includes
plates, banners, and other
items commemorating the
Mount Joy centennial cele-
bration in 1951.

Cars collide at Market and Henry Streets
Estimated damages of
$400 were caused when two
cars collided at the inter-
section of S. Market St., and
Henry St., Mount Joy,
Thursday. Douglas R. Piet-
sch, 30 years old, 514 Glenn
Avenue, Mount Joy, was
travelling north on S.
Market St. and tried to slow
to make a right turn onto
Henry St. but was unable to
make the turn because of
the ice covered street.
A car operated by John
Micheal Melhorn, 16, of 40
Donegal Springs Road,
Mount Joy, was heading
north off the railroad bridge
incline that leads to Henry
Street and -was. ‘unable .to
stop. The bridge is so
constructed that the center
of the overpass is higher
than the ends of vehicles on
the other side and they can
not be seen. The six
passengers in the Pietsch
car and drivers of the cars
sustained ‘no injuries. No
charges were made.
Guns, ammo
stelen in MJ
Larry Schmoll, 970 West
Main- Street, Mount Joy,
returned home Sunday to
find his home had been
entered and guns and
annumition were stolen. A
Marlin RC336 rifle with
scope and sling; Marlin M2
with scope and sling and a
Daisy B-B pistol and holster
were among the items
taken.
Five boxes of ammunition
were also taken. The guns
“8 were valued at $260.
The theft occured some-
time between 6 p.m. Satur-
© day and 12:30 a.m., Sunday.
Mount Joy Boro Police are
_ investigating.
Friend. Fire
Jan. meeting
by Bill Martin
Friendship Fire Co. No. 1,
Mount Joy held their month-
ly meeting January 8 with
President Doug Estock pre-
siding.
The Chief, Frank Good,
reported 9 fire calls and 3
service calls for the month of
December.
In new business the de-
partment:
1. purchased 4 small
antennas for the fire police.
2. approved purchase of a
walkie-talkie by the am-
bulance committee.
3. purchased tables and
chairs to replace the older
tables and chairs in the
meeting room.
4. appointed a committee
to look into purchasing of
uniforms.

A discussion was held on
the new building.

Miller, Jr., from Lancaster
City.
We also expect to serve
refreshments at this meet-
ing.
Since this will be the first
meeting of the New Year,

out what progress we may
expect on our aims and
geals for Retirees.
