Or On Monday next the Marietta
Union Hook and Ladder Truck will be
delivered into the hands of the commit

grand firemen and citizen dress Parade.
The route tc., will be found in annother
part of to-day's paper. In the evening
a ball will be given at the Town Hall,
the proceeds of which are to go into the
" Volunteer fund." This will be a grand
Whit-mondky for our place. Fire com
panics from our surrounding neighbors
are coming, and the several societies of
our place aro to participate.
a. We are glad to be able to an
nounce the discontinuance of the Obi e ki s
post office, located about half-a-mile east
of this borough, on the Pennsylvania
Railroad. This place has always been
considered a secession nest, the post
master, Dr. Haldeman, having only
thrown out the American flag after a
committee had waited on him and de
manded his colors. His brother, a pro
fessor, sometime since openly, and with
an air of learned consequence, said he
owed no allegiance to the North; for
this piece of chivalry, however, he was
compelled to leave the neighborhood
between two days. It is really a relief
to know such men are no longer employ
ed under the stars and stripes. " Place
a whip in every honest hand, and lash
them naked through the land."
er A new company is now drilling
three times a week, at the Town llall ;
they now number over forty of our most
active and energetic young men. We
understand they will to-night decide
upon a name and officers. Up to this
time they have been drilling under E.
D. Roath, Esq., who has bad considera
ble military experience, and who will, in
all probability, be their captain. It is
their intention to uniform and equip
themselves—rifle and all—in order to be
in immediate readiness and thus avoid
the usual government delay in furnish
ing, They will then oiler their services
to the government—for any _period that
may be required. This is the proper
course—no half-way work. From the
material we know this company to be
composed, we confidently predict the
right Ain(' of work, should an opportuni
ty present itself. We hope to be able
soon to announce that it is full.
Captain Theodore D. Cochran, or
the York Volliguers, was recently invi
ted to accept a field appointment, by the
unanimous vote of the officers of the Six
teenth Regiment, which he declined pre
ferring to remain with his company. He
is one of many gallant Pennsylvanians
who distinguished themselves on the
bloody fields of Mexico.
far Lewis Ilaldy of Lancaster, intends
to erect a beautiful marble stone, to
mark the resting plum of Corporal Hos
tack, a member of the First Regiment
Ohio Volunteers, who died while en
camped near that city. The stone is of
the best Italian marble, and the finish,
inscriptions, &c., upon it will be in the
best, style of art.

And grows more and more popular every Day.
AND grows snore and more popular every
day s ! and testimonials ; new, and almost
without number, might be given from ladies
and gentlemen in all grades of society, whose
united testimony none could resist, that Prof.
Wood's Hair Restorative will restore the bald
and gray, and preserve the hair of the youth to
old age, in all its youthful beauty.
Battletereek, Mich., Dec. 21st, 1858.
PROF. Noon: Thee willt please accept a
line to inform thee that the hair on my head all
fell off over twenty years ago, caused by a com
plicated chronic disease, attended with an erup
tion on the head. A eolith' cal course of suffer
ing through life having reduced me to a state of
dependence, I have not been able to obtain
stud for caps, neither have I been able to do
them up, in consequence of which my head has
suffered extremely from cold. This induced
me to pay Briggs & Hodges almost the last cen t
I had on earth for a two dollar bottle of thy
Hair Restorative about the first of August last.
I have faithfully followed the directions and
:he bald spot is now covered with hair thick
and black, though short, it is also coming in all
over my head. Feeling confident that another
large bottle would restore it entirely and per
manently, I feel anxious to persevere in its use,
and being destitute of means to purchase any
more, 1 would ask thee if thee wouldst not be
willing to send me an order on thine agents for
a bottle, and receive to thyself the scripture
declaration—"the reward is to those who arc
kind to the widow and the fatherless."
Thy friend, SUSANNA H. KIRBY.
Ligonier Noble Co., "Indiana, Feb. 5, 1859
PROF. 0. J. WOOD : Dear the latter
part of the year 1852, while attending the State
and National Law School of the State of New
York, my hair, from a cause unknown to me,
commenced failing off very rapidly, so that in
the short space of six months the whole upper
part of my scalp was almost entirely bereft of
its covering, and much of the remaining por
tion upon the side and back part of my head
shortly after became gray, so that you will not
be surprised when I tell you that upon my re
turn to the State of Indiana, my mere casual
acquaintances were not so much at a loss to
dlscover the cause of the change in my appear
ance, as my more intimate acquaintances were
to recognise me at all.
1 at once made application to the most skill
ful physician in the country, but, receiving no
assurance from them that my hair could again
be restored, I was forced to - become reconciled
to my fate, until, fortunately, in the latter pelt
of the year 1857, your Restorative was recom
mended to me by a druggist, as being the most
reliable Hair Restorative in use. ?tried one
bottle, and found to my great satisfaction that
it was producingthc desired effect. Since that
time, 1 have used seven dollars' worth of your
Restorative, and as a result, have a rich coat of
very sofCblack hair, which uo money can buy.
As a mark of my gratitude for your labor
and skill in the production of so wonderful an
article, I have recommended its use to many of
my friends and acquaintances, who, I am hap
py to inform you, are using it with like effect.
Very respectfully yours, A. 11/. LATTA.,
Attorney and Counsellor at Law.
TUE RESTORATIVE is put up in bottles of
three sizes, viz : large, medium, and small ; the
small holds 1-a-pint, and retails for $1 a bottle,
the medium holds at least twenty per cent more
in proportion than the small, retails for $2 per
bottle; the large holds a quart, 40 pct cent
more in proportion, and retails for $3.

HEALTH AND ITS PLEASUI2ES! •
On, DISEASE AND ITS AGONIES
What is more fearful than the breaking
down of the•nervous system? To be excites
ble or nervous in a small degree is most dis
tressing, for where can a remedy be found?-
There is one i—drink but little wine, beer, or
spirits, or far better, none ; take no coffee,—
weak tea being preferable ; get all the fresh
air you can ; take tree or four Pills every night;
eat plenty of solids, avoiding the use of slops ;
and if .theSe goldon rules are followed, you
will he happy in mind and strong in body, and
orget you have any nerves.
MOTHERS AND DAUGHTERS.
If there is one thing more than another for
wLich these Pills are so famous it is their puri
fying properties, especially their power of
cleansing the blood from all impurities, and
removing dangerous and suspended secretions.
Universally adopted as the one grand remedy
for female complaints, they never fail, never
weaken the system, and always bring about
what is required.
SICK HEADACHE ! S AND WANT OF AP-
These feelings which so sadden us, most fr-e
quently arise from annoyances or trouble, from
obstructed perspiration, or from eating and
drinking what is unfit for us, thus disordering
the liver and stomach. These organs must be
regulated if you wish to be well. The Pills, if
taken according to the printed instructions,
will quickly restore a healthy action to both
liver and stomach, whence follow as a natural
consequence, a good appetite and a clear head.
In the East and West Indies scarcely any other
medicine is ever used for these disorders.
DISORDERS OF THE KIDNEYS.
In all diseases affecting these organs, wheth
er they secrete too much or too little water;
or whethor they be afflicted with stone or graVel
or with aches and pains settled in the loins
over the regions of the kidneys, these Pills
should be taken according to the printed direc
tions, and the Ointment ahould be well rubbed
into the small of the back at bed time. This
treatment will give almost immediate relict
when all other means have failed.
FOR STOMACHS OUT OF ORDER.
T. B. SMITH
'7No medicine will so effectually improve the
tone of the stomach as these Pills • they remove
all acidity, occasioned either by intemperance
or imprt.per diet. They reach the liver
and reduce it to a healthy action ; they are
wonderfully efficacious in case of spasm,--in
fact they never fail in curing all disorders of
the liver and Stomach.
