FATAL 11 YDROPHOBTA CARE.—The Lan
caster Evening Express of Monday last,
says : "On Friday evening lust the vil
lage of Mountville, this county, w as
thrown into much excitement and sur
prise by the report that Frances Marks,
a girl of fourteen years of age, manifest
ed symptoms of hydrophobia. On in
vestigation the report proved only too
true, the symptoms showing themselves
in an unmistakable manner, and which
gradually increased until last evening,
when death released the unfortunate girl
from her sufferings. It appears that du
ring the night about six weeks since,
Frances and her sister Lizzie were going
to or returning from a neighbor's, when
they were attacked by a dog and bitten
severely.. No suspicion was entertained
nt the time that the dog was rabid, from
the fact that the attack seemed directed
to a dog which was with the girls at the
time. On Fridey evening, however, the
fearful truth became , apparent as the
symptoms gradually developed them
selves. The sufferings of the unfortu
nate girl were intense, the frightful con
vulsions and distortions peculiar to the
dreadful malady showing thems e l ves
through its various stages. Frances,
however, bore her sufferings with forth-
tuda and resignation, and died in the
conviction that she was about entering
a world where suffering was unknown.
Lizzie, the sister, had not, up to the
latest accounts exhibited any symptoms
-of the disease, and it is hoped that she
will escape the dreadful fate °flier sister.
Since the above was in type, we learn
from the Express of Tuesday evening,
that the sister also died, on Monday
evening, of the seine frightful malady.
Or The Philadelphia Conference of
the M. 1 , 1 Church, closed on Saturday.
We find amongst the appointments, the
following for this county :
Lancaster, Meredith, J. Ilacock.
Columbia, J. 13. Maddocks.
Marietta. J. N. Wheeler.
Mount Joy, T. Kirkpatrick.
...Bainbridge, J. C. Gregg.
Safe Harbor, IV. B. Gregg.
Manor, G. L. Schaffer.
Strasburg, J. Pasterfield.
Enterprise, 3. N. Magee.
Fulton, lAr. W. McMichael
Mount Nebo, 11. 13. Manger. •
Dr. Hodgson is the P. E. of the South
Philadelphia District, and D. W. Bar
tine of the North.
Cir 'Phe new "Borough Fathers" take
their seats this evening. All we have
to say, is, that if they du as well as
their predecessors, none wi 11 have
cause to complain. We would suggest,
however, as one of the first acts of the
new board, to order the removal of that
lamp from the east, to the west side of
Elbow Lane, or un Bell's corner, thus
affording light to persons coming from
Front street, to the Post Office. In its
present position it is about as useful as
a fifth wheel would be to a wagon.
la" Captain Ifambright, of the Lan
caster Jackson Rifles, who received an
appointment as 2nd lieutenant of the Gth
Regiment of Infantry, U. S. A.. has de
clined the honor. Gen'l Cameron, Sec
retary of War, in apprising the Captain
of his appointment, as one of his first
oflicial, acts, says that he knows that the
appointment is not what his position
and services merit, but the grade is the
highest within his power to appoint un
der the laws and regulations of the army.
CrAlr. William Johnstin formerly of
"The II erm itage," L o wer-station, has
taken the old Stackhouse hotel, where
everything is fitted up in very complete
and convenient style. This old stand
has always been a favorite with the
"North- brEtnc he rs." They will find, under
its present management, everything they
could desire.
eir Parents should bear in mind that
on Monday morning next, the Geist-
Sawyer-Hiestand Select Summer School
will open. Send the children to school
by all means, tberoby laying the founda
tion of enlightenment, and keeping them
from the street; thus avoiding a great
temptation to rowdyism.
eiD - Lieut. Col. Andrew Porter, son
of Mrs. George B. Porter; of I ; ancaster,
now in New Mexico, has been ordered
to Carlisle Barracks. This is consider
ed ono of the most delightful post in the
Army, by the officers,
tar Dr. Worrall has taken the rooms
formerly occupied by Dr. Swentzel, be
tween Spangler & Patterson's store and
Wolfe's Notio'n House. See his card.
c-a - Master Frederick Haines, sop of
Mrs Sarah 1-fairies, of this Borough, bas
been nominated py Eton. Th. Stevens
for a Cadetship at West Point..
Or The Susquehanna took a slight
swell on Tuesday last, but is now falling
again. Of late she has shown herself as
fickle as a woman—rising one day—fall
ing the next. But, jesting aside, every
thing here qs exceedingly dull, and we
are sadly in want of a freshet to enliven
the place—all feel the need of Spring
business.

ar Hon. Joseph Konigmacher died at

last. Mr. K. was well known as the pro.
prietor of the Ephrata Springs. He was
also much in public life as a politician.
Mr. K.'s disease was inflamation from a
severe cold. He was 56 years of age.
Cir Mr. Cassel took possession of the

fitted-up for its reception. •

T H 11T A. K II A ARABICA,
DISCOVERED BY A DIISSIONARY,
WHILE TRAVELING IN ARABIA.

Coughs, and Colds', should use the Makora

All who are suffering, from Asthma, Scrofu
la and impurities of the blood should use the
Makora Arabica, discovered by a missionary
in Arabia.
It cures Consumption,
It cures Bionchitis,
It cures Sore Throat, Coughs and Colds.
It cures Asthma, Scrofula and impurities of
the Blood.
This unequalled remedy is now for the first
time introduced to the public.
It was providentially discovered by a mis
sionary while traveling in Arabia. He was
cured- of Consumption by its use after his case
was pronounced .hopeless by learned physiciats
in Europe.
Ile has forwarded to us in writing, a full ac
count of his own extraordinary cure, and of a
number of other cures which have come under
his observation and also a full account of the
medicine.
At his request, and impelled by a desire to
extend a knowledge of this remedy to the pub
lic, we have had his communication printed in
pamphlet form for tree distribution. Its inter
est is enhanced by an account which he gives
of some of the scenes of the Syrian massacres,
which he obtained from those who suffered in
that awful tragedy.
This pamphlet maybe obtained at our office,
or it will be sent free by mail to all who apply
for it. We import the Mokora Arabica direct
from Smyrna through the house of Cleou and
Gylippus, and we have always on hand a full
supply put up in bottlqs ready for use with full
directions. Price One Dollar per bottle.
Sent by mail on receipt of price, and 24 cents
for postage. For sale wholesale or retail, by
