YESTERDAY'S ELECTION: The electi on
for Borough officers was hotly contested
yesterday. On Monday last public no
tice was given that a town meeting irre
spective of party, would be held on that
evening at the Town Hall for the pur
pose of nominating a "Union-Borough
Ticket." At the appointed time the
meeting was held, composed of all shades
of politics and a ticket amicably settled.
This ticket did not, however, answer the
ends of a certain arrogant faction of our
Borough and they determined to defeat
it; hence, on Tuesday evening another
(so called) meeting was held, composed of
eight or ten seer styled "leaders," and a
second ticket formed. This was the tick
et—the one that was to bring to its aid
all the real and pretended wealth of the
Borough and "our Trest-end"—this ticket
was formed by the clique which provides
"bread and employment" for the faithful
poor of the right streak in mid -winter--
which obtains "free passes" on the Rail
road for its chamberlains;—which has all
the wealth—real and personal of the Bo
rough ;—in a word, the clique which
"does and directs" the doings of the
town. How this mighty clique has fallen
—literally "gone to roost,"—having, with
all their money—promises of flour—
threats of discharge from work—and ev
ery conceivably menace, failed to elect
but a couple on their ticket—many of
whom were very deserving and honorable
men. The "old Captain" with all his
"frightful scars," received in his country's
defence CO which, by the aid of a
powerful glass, might be seen,—shared
the fate of the company he was in. We
append below the result:

eir We would call the attention of our
readers to the advertisement in another
column, of the Penn Mutual Life Insur
ance Company. This old and reliable
company, organized in 1848, seems to bo
in a highly flourishing condition, and is
growing rapidly into favor in our neigh
borhood. Prom a statement now before
ate it appears that the accumulated cap
ital of the company during the year 1860
amounted to forty-four thousand dollars.
paid to nineteen different families, in
sums varying from five hundred to five
'thousand dollars. The net profit of the
Company's business during 1860 was
over one hundred thousand dollars, be
sides the large dividend to the insured
.of twenty-five per cent on the amount
;paid in for premiums during the year
!1860.
The advantages of Life Insurance are
.too well known, to need %capitulation
our bands, but we would'advise every
married man to get his Life insured for
the benefit of his wife and children.—
The agent for this neighborhood is Thos.
, of Columbia, who will issue
pamphlets and give information, on ap
plication by mail or otherwise.
Charles Evans, of 1520 Market
'street, Philadelphia, has taken the Am

;be will "open-out" on Tuesday nest.—
;Mr. E. is said to be a fine artist and es
quisit pictures may now be had without
going out of town. Give him a call.
ef'The Spring business may be said
Ito have fairly "set-in ;" quite a number
of timber and board rafts are now tied at
our shore, and the eastern merchants
flocking here. The up-rivermeti have
been here for almost a week. We have
mot learned what prices are being paid.
larGodey's Lady's Book for April is
on our table. The beautiful quadruple
fashion plate is a gem ; the steel engra
ving "The Pet Donkey" is beautiful.—
Godey should be on every lady's centre
table.

Wood's Hair Restorative will restore the bald

in all its youthful beauty.
Battle Creek, Mich., Dee. 21st, ISSS.
Paor. Wool): Thee will. please accept a
line to inform thee that the hair on my head all
fell off over twenty years ago, caused by a com
plicated chronic disease, attended with an erup
tion on the head. A contin tial course of suffer
ing through life having reduced one to a state of
dependence, I have not been able to obtain
stud for caps, neither have I been able to do
them up, in consequence of which my head has
suffered extremely from cold. This induced
me to pay lirwgs &Ilodgesalmostthelastcent
I had on earth for a two dollar bottle of thy
Ilair Restorative about the first of August last.
I have faithfully followed the directions and
the bald spot is now covered with hair thick
and black, though short, it is also coming in all
over my head. Feeling confident that another
large bottle would restore it entirely and per
manently, I feel anxious to persevere in its use,
and being destitute of means to purchase any
more, I would ask thee if 'thee wouldst not be
willing to send me an order on thine agents for
a bottle, and receive to thyself the scripture
declaration—"the reward is to those who are
kind to the widow and the fatherless."
Thy friend, SUSANNAH KIRDY.
Ligonier Noble Co., Indiana, Feb. 9, 1859.
Daor. O. J. Wool): Dear Sir:—ln s the latter
part of the year 1852, while attending the State
and National Law School of the State of New
York, my hair, from a cause unknown to me,
commenced falling off very rapidly, so that in
the short space of six mouths the whole upper
part of my scalp was almost entirely bereft-of
its covering, and much of the remaining por
tion upon the side and back part of my head
shortly after became gray, so that you will not
be surprised when I tell you that upon my re
turn to the State of Indiana, my mere casual
acquaintances were not so much at a loss to
discover the cause of the change in my appear
ance, as my more intimate acquaintances were
to recognise me at all.
I at once made application to the most skill
ful physician in the country, but, receiving no
assurance from them that my hair could again
be restored, I was lotted to become reconciled
to my fate, until, fortunately, in the latter past
of the year 1857, your Restorative was recom
mended to me by a druggist, as being the most
reliable flair Restorative in use. 1 tried one
bottle, and found to my great satisfaction that
it was producing the desired effect. Since that
time, I have used seven dollars' worth of your
Restorative, and as a result, have a rich coat of
very soft black hair, which no money can buy.
As a mark of my gratitude for your • labor
and skill in the production of so wonderful an
article, I have recommended its use to mans' o
my friends and acquaintances, who, 1 am hap
py to inform you, are using it with like effect.
Very respectfully yours, A...M. LATTA,
Attorney and Counsellor at Law.
THE RESTORATIVE is put up in bottles of
thice sizes, viz : large, medium, and small; the
small holds :I-a -pint, and retails fur $1 a bottle
the medium holds at least twenty per cent more
in proportion than the small, retails for $2 pe
bottle; the large holds a quart, 40 pet cent
more in proportion and retails for $3.

What is more fearful than the breaking
.down of the nervous system? To be excitea
hie or nervous in a small degree is most dis
tressing, for where can a remedy he found ?
There is one t—drink but little wine, beer; or
spirits, or far better, none ; take no coffee,—
weak tea being preferable; get all the fresh
air you can ; take tree or four Pills every night;
eat plenty of solids, avoiding the use of slops ;
and if these goldon rules are followed, you
will he happy in mind and strong in body, and
orget you have any nerves.
If there is one thing more than another for
wl.ich these Pills are so famous it is their puri
fying properties, especially their power of
cleansing the blood from all . impurities, and
removing dangerous and suspended secretions.
Universally adopted as the one grand remedy
for female complaints, they never fail, never
weaken the system, and always bring about
what is required.
SICK HEADACHES AND WANT OF AP-
These feelings which so sadden us, most fr-e
quently arise from annoyances or trouble, from
obstructed perspiration, or from eating and
drinking what is unfit for us, thus disordering
the liver and stomach. These organs must be
regulated if you wish to be well. The Pills, if
taken according to the printed instructions,
will quickly restore a healthy action to both
liver and stomach, whence follow as a natural
conseptence, a good appetite and a clear head.
In the East and %Vest Indies scarcely any other
medicine is ever used for these disorders.
DISORDERS OF THE KIDNEYS.
In all diseases affecting these organs, wheth
er they secrete, too much or too little water ;
or wh et hor they be afflicted with stone or gravel
or with aches and pains settled in the loins
over the regions of the kidneys, these Pills
should be taken according- to the printed direc
tions, and the Ointment ahould be ivell rubbed
into the small of the back at bed time. This
treatment will give almost immediate relict
when all other means have failed.
FOR STOIIIACHS OUT OF ORDER.
itNo medicine will so effectually improve the
tone of the stomach as these Pills • they remove
all acidity, occasioned either by intemperance
or • impmper diet. They reach the liver
and reduce it to a healthy action ; they are
wonderfully efficacious in camd-of spasm,—in
fact they never fail in curing all disorders of
the liver and Stomach.
