WICKERSHAM :-A very import ant educational measure, says the Lan caster Examiner, prepared by Prof. James Pyle Wickersham, the present State Superintendent of Common Schools, is now before the State Legis lature. It has already been adopted by the House, and as it has been acted upon favorably by the Senate Commit tee on Education, there is little doubt of its passage by that body. The ex fet ing school laws.of the State are in some respects materially changed—one of the chief reforms aimed at being an improve ment in the qualifications of teaohers. Prof. Wickersham says that there are now in the State, entitled to the benefits of the public school system, no less than 750,000 children. The instruction of so many growing minds is a subject that may well occupy the thoughts of the wisest of statesmen. We fully endorse the Bucks County Intelligencer in say ing that as a practical and judicious leader in the field of educational pro gress, our State can boast of no more worthy citizen than the present bead of the School Department. DUTY OF TOWNSILIP AUDITORS. -It may not be generally known that a general law of the Legislature, approved April 11, 1866, requires the bounty occounts of every district to be carefully audited by the Township auditors, and "prepare a condensed statement of the coudition of these finances, and publish the same, at the cost of the district, for throe suc cessive weeks, in two papers." It not only requires this duty to be performed by the Township Auditors, but imposes a penalty of fifty dollars upon each Aud_ itor who refuses to comply, one-half of which goes to the prosecutor, and the other half to the school fund of the district. It provides, also, that the Aud itors shall notify the School Directors or other parties having the disbursement of the bounty funds, to appear before them at such a time as the Auditors shall 6x, for the purpose of enabling the Aud itors to close up the bounty accounts of the township for the fiscal year. S Dr. Hostetter—Sir: I have long delayed writing to Diu my sincere thanks for the good you have done my daughter. I can truly say that nothing but the kind hand of Providence and your BITTERS have saved her from an early grave. For three years I have been doctoring her with syrups and all kinds of bit ters that have been recommended to me for her, besides having two first-rate physicians ; but all seemed to do her no good, while I was searching the almanacs and all the newspapers that I could get hold of, in hopes of finding something that would suit her case. Acci dentally there came part of a newspaper around some goods that I bought at the Spa. Li looking it over I saw at a glance that your Bitters was just what she needed. , I sent the next day to Ballston Spa and got a bottle of your Bitters. She commenced taking them, and such a change in one week with her ap • petite, and the distress that victuals occasion ed, and that burning in the stomach, I nes - er saw in my life, as there was in her. She has taken three bottles, and is now able to work all the time. I think there is a little derange ment of the lives. Please send me three bot tles more, which I think will cure her entire ly. We and others thought she had disease of the heart, but tat beating and fluttering that would almost stop her from breathing at times, is all gone. Yours, with respect, Mits. AMANDA. IVHAT THE PRES SAY OF US Arr.indale & Co., of tic:s city are now send ing out a great variety of Dress Coat and pants patterns, balmoral skirts, boas, shawls and other valuable articles, in dry and fancy goods, at one dollar each. Wo confess our inability to see how this is done, but that it is done is beyond all question. This firm has had a long and honorable ca reer, and is to be by no means confounded with the host of swindling andbogus coneerns with which this metropolis abounds. We know the proprietors well and can personally vouch for the just aad faithful peifo mance of all.their contracts.—/Vationat Workman, Atcw York, Feb. 2, 1867. EXTRAORDINARY GOOD FORTUNE.—Day before yesterday, at the Jewelry sales of Messrs. Arrandale & Co., two gold watches were drawn by two gentlemen known to this corn thunity, whose names we will not mention. Parties curious on this subject can be inform ed at the store in wing strict, nearly opposite the Beaulain. We were curious on the sub ject, and inquired the names of the parties, and called on one of them, and wire shown the watch he drew. It was a large double case gold watch, and we were informed that it kept time to a second since it had been in the possession of our fortunate friend. It would have baen very natural to suppose that after one watch was drawn there was no chance for another for at least a month ; but, strange to say, in less than an hour, another gold watch rewarded the worshipper of For tune. Go all and do likewise.— Daily South Carolinian, Charleston, Feb. 12th 1866.- A QUARTER WELL IN VESTED.—Mr. gene B. Carter, of the Monticello House, call ed in at the Jewelry Emporium, 78 Mt in street, yesterday, and after paying his 25 cents suddenly found himself entitled to a musical box, valuedat $3OO. We understand that lie was offered $250 for the instrument before leaving the store, but refused to part with it. We should call this a quarter well invested. We understand a number of other valuable articles were re ceived amongst which was a gold watch val ued at $75, b) ()Le of the attachees of the Et.- quirei office.—Richmond Times, September 21, 1866. HORSE AND BUGGY BAN AWAY.—Mr. W. H. Wise, Union Hi 1, coach painter at J. J. Osborne's, last evening walked into the great sale of Arrandale & Co., 78 Main street,_ and having paid 25 cents for a phoMgrapli found on opening the envelope that on the payment of one dollar he was entitled to receive a fine horse, sett of new silver mounted harness and new buggy, valued at four hundred dollars ! Mr. Wise appeals to be a cool, self possessed sort of a man, and did not manifest the least excitement at his good fortune, merely re marking " that lie was intending to purchase a horse and buggy soon, and had a stable all ready, so it would come in very well for him." —Richmond Whlg, November 15, 1866. EMPL..YDIENT FOR LADS ES.—The most eli gible and profitable employment we have ' heard of for ladies, who have friends and ad dress, is the sale of certificates for the "Great Jewelry Sale" of Arrandals Sz Co. A lady of our acquaintance has been very successful in this way, not only in filling her own purse but also in doing a good turn to those to whom she sold the certificates, as will be seen from our advertising columns. Gentlemen also can be thus engaged.—N. Y. Sunday Mercury, August 14, 1864. DOURLE-BARRELED FOWLING I' lEC E CHEAP.—We understand Mr. G. W. Wilkin son, of Ibis city, yesterday drew from the cer tificate box at Arrandale & Co's., 78 Main Street, a very fine double barreled fowling piece, valued at one hundred dollars, for which he was required to pay the very mod erate sum of one dollar.—Richmond Whig, September 29, 1866. The GREAT JEWELRY EMPORIUM of Ar randale & Co., No. 254 King street, in the Bend, is still the prime object of attraction. The number of ladies and g.ntleri en who vis ited this establishment on Saturday last, was we understand, something fabulous. The principle of charging a un,fjtm price of one dollar for each article is one that cannot fail to be popular, especially when the stock con tains, as in this case, many valuable articics of fine gold jewelry, and costly silver ware.— Charleston Daily News, February 19, 1866. PIANO CHEAP.—Mr. John I). Bedford, at Old Dominion Saloon, No. 312 Broad street, yesterday got one dollar's worth of certificates and, on opening them, found one caned for a Gold Composite Hunting Watch and another for a Rosewood Piano, valued with cover and stool, at s4oo.—Rtchmond Doily Examiner No vember 27, 1866- In sending orders please state what propor tion of certificates you require from each de partment.
