These letters contain minute inquiries into the character and practical workings of the Pennsylvania Common School system, with a view to its introduction into the States named, exceptieg Tennessee, which has enacted quite a liberal and comprehensive school law, which embodies many of the best features of the Pennsylvania sys tem. The Professor is at grhat pains to answer all these letters in detail, and also forwards numerous printed docu ments. sir The Wrightsville Star says : "We understand that the Susquehanna and Tide Water Canal has been but slightly damaged by the recent ice freshet. It was feared at one time that the immense body of ice on the Susquehanna could hardly move off without serious injury to the towing path of the canal. We are happy to state, however, that such was not the case, and that the injury it received will be speedily repaired and the canal will be ready fur navigation between the 25th instant, and the lst of next month. It is expected that the Penn. Canal will be opened about the 15th of April, proximo." cz - The repairs and improvements now being made to the Pennsylvania canal will not allow of the water being let in until on or about the 15th of April.
