The Exhibition of the "Farmers' and
Gardeners' Society of East Donegal,"
on Saturday last, much surpassed our
expectations. The severity of the win
ter, and the dry weather in early spring
injured many Strawberry beds, so much
that small crops of fruit were anticipa
ted ; but the later rains have been of
much benefit and a fair yield will yet be
realized
The specimens on exhibition were not
quite as numerous as last season, but
the quality was fully equal to any here
tofore exhibited. Mr. Henry M. Engle
exhibited 20 named varieties, and nearly
one hundred seedlings, of his own pro
duction ; several of them are much
superior to their parent varieties, in the
desirable qualities of flavor, color, size,
solidity and productiveness. Mr. Engle
is deserving of much credit for having
given the business of crossing plants, for
the purpose of improvement, so much
attention, and he is now in a fair way of
being able to present to the public some
varieties that will surpass those that are
now the most popular.
Miss Charlotte Haines exhibited some
excellent specimens of the Agriculturist,
Joseph Wiodolph, Agriculturist, Tri
omph de (land, Russell's Frolifle, French
Seedling and Wilson's Albany.
B. E. Longenecker, Wilson's Albany.
Cyrus Lenhart, Ellsworth, Brooklyn
Scarlet, Austin and De Ganda.
J. E. Kreybill, Russel's Prolific.
B. Spangler, Russel's Prolific, Wil
son's Albany, Da Gande and Globose
Scarlet.
F. L. Baker, Agriculturist, Russel,
Wilson's Albany and De Gaud.
Col. James Myers, an exceedingly
beautiful variety that was purchased a
few years since for the Hooker, but has
proven superior to that variety in every
respect; it cannot be identified by any
of our fruit growers with any of the
known varieties ; the Society have,
therefore, named it after the Col's. resi_
dence " Norwood."
Michael Ramler, "Norwood," the
same as the above, but superior speci
mens; exceeding the Agriculturist in
size, and of a beautiful light scarlet.col
or ; they were the most attractive ber
ries on exhibition.
Harry Wolfe, very superior Triomph
de Ganda.
The Black Tartarian and two other
varieties of early Cherries were exhibi
ted by Mr. Tobias Martin, Superintend
ent of the Elizabeth Gardens of the
" Franklin County Fruit Growers'
Association."
G. W. Atehaffei, ten varieties of
cherries
G. Lenhart, Gov. Wood and one other
variety not named.
Franklin Hippie, May Duke and Clay
land, very fine.
G. Lenhart, Currants and Gooseber
ries.
B. Spangler, Daniel O'Rourke Peas.
John Shields, new. potatoes of good
size, a very early and quite productive
seeding of quality equal to Mercers.
In the department of Flowers there
was a magnificent display.
Mr. 8. It Purple, of Columbia Nurse
ries, 25 labeled Roses of the favorite
new varieties.
Mrs. S. 11, Purple, 3 boquets of choice

GIVE NATURE A LlFT.—People expect too
much of Nature They trifle with their health
and their constitutions, and then are surprised
that they fall sick.
The pressure of constant mental or bodily
labor upon the animal powers is tremendous.
V try few systems and constitutious can bear
up against this pressure unassisted. Add to
this the unhealthy influences which lurk un
seen in the air we breathe, the water we drink,
the artificial heat with which'we endeavor to
chase away the cold and marrow-searching
moisture of winter, and it would seem to re
quire almost superhuman vigor to keep in per
fect health at this rigorous season without re
inforcing the physical energies.
But how reinforce them? Certainly not
with adulterated stimu ants. There is no
poison in the outer air, or in the atmosphere
of furnace-heateu rooms, or workshops, or
factories, so pernicious as those deadly-burn-
ing fluids.
Why-use them, when Hostater's Stomach
Bitters, a vegetable tonic without alloy, are
everywhere obtainable ? Nothing has ever
been offered to the feeble and debilitated so
harmless in its nature, so powerful in its in
vigorating effects, as this celebrated Stomachic
and Alterative. In the army and the navy,
in new settlemcn ts, and in crowded cities, by
old and young, rich and poor, it is used as a
Protective and _Restorative Medicine, with the
most gratifying results. J.

are a scientifically compounded fluid prepara
tion, and better than any Pills, Powders or
Nostrums. Being liquid, their actien is direct
and positive, rendering them a.-reliable, epee- ,

structions and suppressions of nature. Their
popularity is indicated by the fact that over
100,000 bottles are annually sold and consum
ed by the ladies of the United States, every
ore of whom speak in the strongest terms of
p aise of their good merits. They are rapidly
taking the place of every other Female Rem

aught of them, as the surest, safest and most
infallible preparation in the world, for the
cure of all female complaints, the removal of
all obstructions of nature, and the promotion
of health, regularity and• strength. Explicit
directions stating when they may be used, and
explaining when they should not, nor could

which none are genuine.

contain more vegetable extractive matter than
twenty boxes of any pills in the world besides;
fifty-five hundred physicians use them in their
practice to the exclusion of other purgatives.
The first letter of their value is yet scarcely
appreciated. When they are better known,
sudden death and continued sickness will be
of the past. Let those who know them speak
right out in their favor. It is a duty which
will save life. Our race are subject to a re
dundancy of vitiated bile at this season, and
it is as dangerous as it is prevalent ; but Bran
dreth's Pills afford an invaluable and efficient
protection. By their occasional use we pre
vent the collection of those impurities which,
when in sufficient quantities, cause so much
danger to the body's health. They soon cure

cure for Consumption, Asthma, Coughs, Bron
