FRAUDS :—We copy from the
Digester EXaMther, the following a c.
Oflhe "Becker Distillery" frauds :
ouSeturday last, J. K. Alexander, the
m oor for this District, had a hearing
lof e ase, from which it appeared that
isformation was given by George H.
E tt le, of Marietta, that John C. Cook.
lam formerly of Virginia, but now resid
'jo Mount Joy, had been distilling
and s ang liquor in violation of the
Prato Laws of the United States.
It further appeared that Benjamin M.
Stou ffer, of blanbeim borough, and John
Boer, of Rapho township, were eon-
Dead with Cookson in carrying on the
d i r oliag business, and that 21,113 gal
lons of whisky had been distilled and
sold on which no tax had been paid.
After a full investigation in the presence
o f Ile parties and their Attorneys, - the
Assessor imposed the tax of two dollars
s galloo on the number of gallons al
leged to have been , sold violation of
Jaw, amounting to $42.226. To secure
the payment of this amount, the distill
ery situated in East Donegal township,
mar Marietta, with the fixtures and
gook on hand, including 78 barrels of
whisky, had been seized by the 11. S.
Collector. .10 addition to this seizure
Messrs, Cookson, Becker and Stauffer,
were required to give bonds for any de-
Macy that might — exist. •
There are numerous charges against
other parties, among them one against
Abe. S. Hackman, of Mount Joy, who
will have a hearing on Saturday . next.
lir Mr. Joseph Parry, his sister, Miss
Jase Parry and David Gravel, assisted
by the Columbia Welsh Glee Club will
give a concert in the Town Hall, on
Saturday ( this ) evening. Mr. and
Min Parry and Mr. Gravel are. distin
guished swats whilst the Welsh Club
is considered by all who have heard it,
to discourse fine music. It will, no
doubt, be a pleasant entertainment.

WELL TO•DAY, S/CATO-DIORROW.—Such is
the experience of thousands. Few enjoy con
tinuous health. To what does the occasional
invalid attribute his uncertain condition ?
Not to himself, of course. He lays the blame
on the climate, perhaps. It is too hot, or too
cold, or too damp, or too dry, or too variable.
But does he take the'proper course to fortify
his constitution and bodily organs against the
extremes ana changes of which he complains ?
No. lie says, perhaps, that only an iron man
could bear such great beat, or such violent
cold, or such sudden vicissitudes. Why then
does he not resort to the great Tonic and Pre
ventive, which, if it will not make him an
iron man, will at least quadruple the capacity
of his system to repel all external agencies
that tend to 'produce disease? Hostetter's
Celebrated Stomach - Bitters, taken faithfully
according to the directions, will so strengthen
the stomach, brace the nerves, tone the liver,
and regulate and invigorate the whole animal
machinery, that the system, instead of being
ttt the mercy of the
, weather, and liable to be
prostrated by every change of temperature,
will become case-hardened, as it weie, and
almost impervious to climatic influences. It
is to this preventive principle that Hostettei's
Bitters owe their great popularity in the West
Indies, British America and AuStralia. • F.

HISTORY OF THE
GREAT REBELLION !
milE. late rebellion stands out peculiar and
extra Ordinary in human events; and the
magnificent scale upon which the war has
Dealt conducted, constitute it one of the grand
est and most brilliant chapters of the world's
hisia.y. •
Mr. Headley, of all writers, is perhaps best
qualified to portray the the stupendous feat
ures of the mighty contest. His previous
works on less momentous themes have placed
him in the first posotion, as a graphic and pow
erful deleniator of war scenes and characters,
and the magnitude and grandeur of the pres
ent subjut, impart to his pen the fire and vi
gor of a yet more exacted inspiration, and fur
nish ample scope for the highest exhibition of
his peculiar genius for military description.
Under his powerful pen the stirring scenes of
the War pass in review with the vividness aim
distinctness of a present and living reality ;
while his great talent for condenuation ena
bles him to embody everything of importance
in a compass just suited to the public want.
From no other source can so clear and com
prehensive an imiiression of the grand march
of events be obtained, so easily and agreeably
as bow Mr. Headley's work.
Other histories have been issued before
Grant's Report and other official documents
were submitted to the government, and there
lore unreliable. 5, r. Headley has delayed the
completion of this till those docuinents 40 es
sential to authenticity and correctness could
be obtained.

Well known and much respected among the
German population in this country, makes
the following statement for the benefit of
the afflicted.
DEA it SIRS :—Having realized in my family
important benefits from the use of your valu
able preparation—WlSTAß'S BALSAM OF
Wx ILD CHERRY—it affords me pleasure to re
commend it to the, public• Some eight years
ago one of ray daughters seemed to be in a
decline, and little hopes of Ler recovery were
entertained. I then procured a liottle of your
excellez,t Balsam, and before she had taken
the whole of the contents of the bottle there
was a great improvement in her health. I
have, in my individual case made frequent
use of your valuable medicine, and have al
ways been benefited by it. JACOB SECH LER.
