ful for this intelligence, for Marietta
could ill afford to lose the service of Mr.
z,tpangler. We would not be invidious,
but of all our citizens, Mr. Spangler, it
i s well known, is the first and foremost
m every good work. He has long and
earnestly contended for 'a Government
booed on equal justice to all classes of
citizens, irrespective of either creed or
color, and has now an opportunity to
rejoice in seeing that the Southern
ilsveholders, by their own wicked re•
hellion, have themselves broken the
fetters which they forged for their un
fortunate fellow beings. As a philan
thropist, a friend of education, of Health
"t ee m, of Temperance, and of every
other kindred movement that promisee,
in any way, to ameliorate the condition
of his fellow men, Mr. S., has no su
perior in Marietta; and we trust that
he will long be spared to bless the com
munity with his labots of love,

(Oahu Noel, formerly keeper of the
Glnts Ferry, at this place, was the only
Nlatiettian amongst the lost on board of
the ill-fated Qainnebang, off Moorehead
city. He and a comrade were hanging
on to a pieee of the wreck, when com
ing near shore, the sergeant being a
good swimmer, said he would swim to
shore, but a breaker struck him and he
sank to rise no more.
ar Mr. W. H. Stilwell, architect and
builder of Mr. Duffy's handsome resi
dence at the "west-end" of our borough,
is about to leave for Sunbury, Pa., where
he is engaged to erect a large bank
building and mansion. Mr. S. is an ac
complished artisan, as his work on Mr.
Duffy's building clearly attest, which is
admitted by all to be the ,finest piece of
workmanship outside of Philadelphia.

These Bonds are now worth a handsome
premium, and are exempt, as are all the Gov
ernment Bonds, from State, County, and Mu

similar in form and privileges to the Seven-
Thirties already sold, except that the Govern
ment reserves to itself the option of paying in
terest in gold coin at 6 per cent. instead of 7.-
3-10ths in currency, Subscribers will deduct
the interest in Irrency up to July 15th, at
the time when the, subscribe.
The delivery of the notes of this third varies
of the Seven-thirties will commence on the
let of June, and will be made promptly and
continuously after that date.
The slight change made in the conditions of
this THIRD SP.RIES affects only the matter

Less than $230,000,000 of the Loan au
thorized by the last Congress are now in the
market. This amount at the rate at which it
is being absorbed, will all be subscribed for
within two months, when the notes will, un
doubtedly command a premium, as has uni
formly been the case on closing the subscrip
tions to other Loans.
In ordefthat citizens of every town and
section of the country may be afforded facili
ties for taking the loan, the National Banks,
State Banks, and Private Bankeis throughout
the country have generally agreed to receive
subscriptions at par. Subscribers will select
their own agents, in whom they have confi
dence, and who only are to be .responsible for
the delivery of the notes for which they re
ceive girders.
