    a t fatal alarititian.
SATURDAY, JULY 29, 1865
wre were considerably alarmed
1 . •
by a report that obtained circulation on
~,,,n d ey last, that Barr Spangler, Esq.,
dying, of Typhoid Fever—that Dr.
a meron
of Wilmington, Del., had been
,
telegraphed for, and that, in the mean
time, Dr. Armor, of Columbia, had been
ceded in. Much anxiety respecting
t h e fate of our esteemed friend was man
and it was earnest
mted by all classes,
iv and universally wished that we might
oat thus suddenly and unexpectedly be
t olled to mourn the, untimely loss of
00 0 of our most valuable citizens.
mr, Spangler being a thorough be
liever, as well as a practitioner, in the
Hygienic system of Modicige, had been
treated is the premises on strictly Hy
gienic principles, and it was not until
h i e f am ily felt alarmed for his safety
that medical assistance was called for.
Pr. Armor saw him and prescribed for
him, on Sunday evening, and on Mon
day morning Dr. Cameron arrived and
gave us the comforting assurance that
he would yet recover. We felt thank
ful for this intelligence, for Marietta
could ill afford to lose the service of Mr.
z,tpangler. We would not be invidious,
but of all our citizens, Mr. Spangler, it
i s well known, is the first and foremost
m every good work. He has long and
earnestly contended for 'a Government
booed on equal justice to all classes of
citizens, irrespective of either creed or
color, and has now an opportunity to
rejoice in seeing that the Southern
ilsveholders, by their own wicked re•
hellion, have themselves broken the
fetters which they forged for their un
fortunate fellow beings. As a philan
thropist, a friend of education, of Health
"t ee m, of Temperance, and of every
other kindred movement that promisee,
in any way, to ameliorate the condition
of his fellow men, Mr. S., has no su
perior in Marietta; and we trust that
he will long be spared to bless the com
munity with his labots of love,
gr Sergeant Lichteberger, step-son
(Oahu Noel, formerly keeper of the
Glnts Ferry, at this place, was the only
Nlatiettian amongst the lost on board of
the ill-fated Qainnebang, off Moorehead
city. He and a comrade were hanging
on to a pieee of the wreck, when com
ing near shore, the sergeant being a
good swimmer, said he would swim to
shore, but a breaker struck him and he
sank to rise no more.
ar Mr. W. H. Stilwell, architect and
builder of Mr. Duffy's handsome resi
dence at the "west-end" of our borough,
is about to leave for Sunbury, Pa., where
he is engaged to erect a large bank
building and mansion. Mr. S. is an ac
complished artisan, as his work on Mr.
Duffy's building clearly attest, which is
admitted by all to be the ,finest piece of
workmanship outside of Philadelphia.
isr The following furnaces in our vi
cinity have been "blown-out" : "St.
Charles," 0. B. Grubb ; "genry Clay,"
Denny, Bess & Co,; "Chiqueswoolun
go," Dr. Haldeman; "Eagle," Eagle,
Beaver & Co. ; and both of the ' Mari
etta Furnaces," Muesleman & .Watts.
Leaving only one furnace (" Donegal,"
Col. James Myers) between this place
and Columbia, in blast.

NOT A FEW
Of the worst disorders that afflict mankind
arise from the corruption that accumulates in
the Blood. Of all the discoveries that have
been made to purge it out, none can equal in
effect
HELMBOLD'S
Compound Extract of Sarsaparrilla.
It cleanses and renovates the Blood, instils]
the vigor of HEALTH into the system,
and purges out the humors which make dis
ease. It stimulates the healthy functions of
the body, and expels the disorders that grow
and rankle in the Blood. Such a remedy,
that could be relied on, has long been sought
for, and new, for the first time,? the public
have one on which they can depend. Our
space here does not admit of certificates to
show its effects, but the trial of a single bot
tle will show to the sick that it has virtues
surpassing anything they have ever taken.
Two tablespoonsful of the E.xtract sot Sarsa
parilla, added to a pint of water, is equal to
the Lisbon Diet Drink, and one bottle is equal
to a gallon of the syrup, of Sarsaparilla, or
the decoction as usually made.
The above extracts are prepared on purely
scientific principles—in Vacuo—and embody
the full strength of the ingredients entering in
to their composition. A ready and conclusive
test will be a comparison of their properties
with those set forth in the U. S. Dispensato
ry.
HOW f 0 USE tHE REMEDIES
In diseases of the Blood, Humors on the
Face, or any and every part of the body, use
Extract Sarsaparilla, applying to Pimples and
