6 - "The Field, the Dungeon, and the
Escape," is the title of a new work just
appearing, by Albert D. Richardson,
late War Correspondent of the New
York Tribune. This work embraces
Mr. Richardson's unparalled experience
for four years, in traveling through the
south in the secret service of the Tri

the Armies and Navy. Also his thrill
ing capture, and confinement for twenty
months in seven different rebel prisons.
His escape, and miraculous journey by
night, of nearly 400 miles, aided by Do

It will abound in stirring events nev
er before given to the public, and con.
tains minute details of the escape, which
have not yet appeared, including a de
scription of Dan Ellis, the famous Union
Pilot, and the unknown Guide, in the
person of e, Young Lady, with Facts, In
cidents, and romance of the war. It
will be issued in the highest style of ty
pography, illustrated by eight spirited
sketches on wood, by a portrait of the
author on steel, of seven Army Corres
pondents, who have become widely
known during the war: Messrs. Charles
C. Coffin, ("Carleton,") Boston Journal;
Richard T. Colburn, New York World;

WHAT EVERYBODY KNOWS, viz :
That Iron well galvanized will not rust;
That a simple machine is better than a corn
plicated one; •
That a • Wringer should be self-adjusting,
durable, and efficient;
That .11w:0-Screws, and Fastenings cause
de/al and t. ouble to regulate and keep in order ;
That wood soaked in hot water will swell,
slu•ink and split;
That wood bearings for the shaft to run in
will wear out;
That the Putnam Wringer, with or without
cog- wheels, will not tear the clothes;
That cog-wheel regulators are notessential ;
That the Putnam Wringer has all the ad
vantages, and not one of the disadvantages
above named ;
That all wim have tested it, pronounce it
the best Wringer ever made;
That it will wring anything from a thread
to a b.d quilt without alteration ;
We might fill the paper with testimonials,
but insert only a few to convince the skepti
cal, if such there be ; and we say to all, test
Putnam's Wringer.
Test it thoroughly with any and ALL others,
and if nor entirely satisfactory, return it.
Putnam Manufacturing Co:
GENTLEMEN : I know from practical experi
ence that iron well galvanized with zinc will not
oxidize or rust one particle. The Putnam

We have tested Putnam's Clothes Wringer

operate it; it does its duty thoroughly; it
saves time and it saves wear and tear. We
earnestly advise all who have much washing

any, to buy this Wringer. It will pay for it

WALL BRUSHES,
A new article in this market, and far superior
to any other in use. A few reasons why :
First.—They are free from twine, which is
affected by the lime, and liable to rot, caus
ing the falling out of the bristles.
Second.—The bristles are inserted in the
wood, or body of the brush, when green, which
when dry, causes them to be held firmly in
their place ; any subsequent soaking or shrink
age fails to affect them.
Third.—They are made of Bristles exclusive
ly ; many kinds being composed, in part, of
whalebone.
. .
Fourth.—They contain more bristles for the
size, and are .as cheap as the ordinary kind.

Knowing positively that Reeves' Ambrosia
produced a beautiful head of hair for Mrs.
Lizzie Shepherd, of Brooklyn,New-York, I
was induced, thereby, to use ithoroughly. I
needed something for my hair, it beino . b short
and thin ; had used one half-dozen bottles
when I could plainly notice an increase in its
length, strength and beauty. An experience
of about two years has proved a complete
success. My hail is now, by measurement,

NOT A FE W
Of the worst disorders that afflict mankind
arise from the corruption that accumulates in
the Blood. Of all the discoveries that have
been made to purge it out, none can equal in
effect
HELMBOLD'S
Compound Extract of Sarsaparrilla.
It cleanses and renovates the Blood, instills
the vigor of HEALTH into the system,
and purges out the humors which make die-
ease. It stimulates the healthy functions of
the body, and expels the disorders that grow
and rankle in the Blood. Such a remedy,
that could be relied on, has long been sought
for, and new, for the first time, the public
have one on which they can depend. Our
space here does not admit of certificates to
show its effects, but the trial of a single bot-
tle will show to the sick that it has virtues
surpassing anything they have ever taken.
Two tablcspoonsful of the Extract of Sarsa-
paella, added to a pint of water, is equal to
the Lisbon Diet Drink, and one bottle is equal
to a gallon of the Syrup of Sarsaparilla, or
the decoction as usually made.
The above Extracts are prepared on purely
scientific principles—in Vacuo—and embody
the full strength of the ingredients entering in-
to their composition. A ready and conclusive
test will be a comparison of their properties
with those set forth in the U. S. Dispensato-
