GT The "Lady's Friend" for January
is out, which fully bears out its high
reputation ; it has now entered its sec
ond year. The leading steel engraving,
"Bush ! it is Asleep," , is a beautiful
picture, and will doubtless go right to
the hearts of the ladies. The Fashion
Plate—a doable one, as usual—is very
handsome indeed, admirably engraved
on steel, and richly colored. Then there
is a colored design of a Work Table
Companion, a very useful lady, as she
seems, in red and yellow and blue ; and
numerous other engravings of the Fash
ions, Work Table Department, &c.
The Music of this number is a piece
entitled "1 stood within our Cottage
Hall." The literary contents are excel
lent. Now is the time to commence

Knowing positively that Reeves' Ambrosia
produced a beautiful head of hair for Mrs.
Lizzie Shepherd, of Brooklyn, New-York, I
was induced, thereby, to use it thoroughly. I
needed something for my hair, it bein4 short

when I could plainly notice an increase in its

Analysis of the Mass. State Assayer. [ISA]
When evaporated through clean linen it left
no oil or offensive matter. In every respect
it is a PURE spirituous liquor. The oil which
gives to this Brandy its flavor and aroma, is
wholly unlike fusil or grain oil. Its odor par
takes of both the fruit and oil of grapes. With
acids it produces ethers of a high' fragrance.
The substitution of this Brandy for Cognac
Brandy will do away with the manufacture of
FICTITIOUS spirits,sold under this name bath
at home and abroad. Respectfully,
A. A. HAYES, M. D., State Assayer,•

BY THE SAME, IN 1864.
1 have analysed " L. LYONS' Pure Catawba
Brandy," with reference to its composition and
character, being the same as that produced in
past ears. A sample taken from ten casks
afforded the same results with regard to puri
ty ; a slightly increased amount of the princi
ple on which its flavor depends was determin
ed by comparison with former samples.
The indications of analysis show thatthis
Brandy is produced by the same proCess as
most of the imported Brandy.

WHAT EVERYBODY KNOWS viz
That Iron well galvanized will not rust;
That a simple machine ishetter than a com
plicated one;
That a Wringer should - be self-adjusting,
durable, and efficient;
That Thumb-Screws,' and Fastenings cause
delay and bauble to regulate and keep in order;
That wood soaked in hot .water will' swell,
shrink and split;
That wood bearings for the shaft to run in
wilt wear out ;
That the Putnam Wringer, with ox without
cog-wheels, will not tear the clothes
That cog-wheel regulators are not essential ;
That the Putnam Wringer has all the ad
vantages, and•. not one of the ; disadvantages
above named;., .
That all who have tested it, pronounce it
the best Wringer ever made;
That it will wring anything from, a thread
to a bad quilt without alteration.; •
We might fill the , paper with testimonials,
but insert only a few to convince the skepti

Putnam's Wringer.
Test it thoroughly, with any and ALL others,

New York, January, 1864.
We have tested Putnam's Clothes Wringer
by practical working, and know that it will
do. It is cheap ; it is simple ; it requires no
room, whether at work or at rest; a child can
operate it ; it does its duty thoroughly ; it
saves time and it saves wear and tear. We
earnestly advise all who have much washing
to do, with all intelligent persons who have
arty, to buy this Wringer. It will s pay for it
self in a veer at most.

As Kunkel's Bitter Wine of Iron is the only
sure and effectual remedy in the known world
for the permanent cure of Dyspepsia and De
bility, and as there am a number of imitations
offered to the public, we would caution the
community to purchase none but the genuine
article, manufactured by S. A KUNKLE &
13n0., and has their stamp on the top of the
cork of every bottle. The very fact that others
are attempting to imitate this valuable reme
dy, proves its worth and speaks volumes in
its favor.
The Bitter Wine of Iron is put up in 75 cent
and $1 00 bottles, and sold by all ies.)ectable
druggists throughout the country. Be porde
ular.that every bottle bears the far simile of
the proprietor's signature.
This Wine includes the most agreeable and
efficient Salt of Iron we possess; Citrate of
Magnetic Oxide combined, with the most en
ergetic of vegetable tonics, Yellow Peruvian
hark. The effect in many cases of debility,
loss of appetite, arid general prostration, of
an efficient Salt of Iron, combined with our
valuable Nerve Tonic, is most happy. It
augments the appetite, raises fhe pulse, takes
off muscular flabbiness, 'removes the pallor of
debility, and gives a florid vigor to the coun
tenance.
