SATZB , DAY, OCTOBER 29, 18134.
s A brakesman of the Philadelphia
and Columbia railroad named G. R.
Harrison, was found dead on the top of
a burden car, as the train passed into
the Lancaster freight depot, a few morn
ings since. The train passed through
the bridge near Parkesburg at about
half.past two o'clock in the ,morning,
and the deceased must have been el rock
by this structure and killed instantly.
Lie was about twenty-three years'of age,
an exemplary young man, 'and resided
with his parents in Labcaster. When
the war broke out, he entered the three
months service under Capt. D. W. Pat

term, be enlisted under Captain Herr,
in Co. 1, 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry , for
three years,,serving to the end of, the
term. On the 29th of last month he
was appointed a brakesman on the Penn

Mr. William Girod is about to
'pen singing school in the High
School Room. Mr. G. has long been
regarded as ono of the best vocalists in
our vicinity. The co u rse will be open
to both sexes. See his card. We can
distinctly remember when every fall and
winter these classes were gotten-u p -and
were a "kind-a•courting schools for
young 'tins," and many a billing and

"knee-high•to-a-duck," witness, but alas!
those were days of joy, so free froM
every pain,—but—but—enough on that
etruio, go to Girod's school and learn to
sing.
Q Certain citizens residing in the
neighborhood of the Susqnehanna river
have issued a notice cautioning all per
sons from shooting wild ducks along the
riy-br and its tributaries on any other
days of the week than Tuesdays, Thurs
days and Saturdays. This, it is said, is
in accordance with a law passed at the
last session of the Legislature. The
penalty for violating the statue is severe,
and the citizens along the Susquehanna
insist that it *shall be r z.forced in all
cases
