Gar J. M. Kreiter has been appointed

Philadelphia and Harrisburg, in place
of William Reitzel, resigned. We
are very sorry to part with Mr. Reitzel,
as will many others, for he was the most

ear We received a letter from Sergt.
Maj. John M. Kline, of the Forty-Fifth,
too late for publication this week; it
will appear in our next. He says all of
the Marietta boye are in fine health and
mpirits except Robert Carroll, jr., and
Edmund Stahl, who have both been ill,
but are now convalescing and on duty
again.
Gir We had a pop-call from Mr.
Montgomery Oaracber, who has just re
turned from New Mexico, where he has
resided for the past eighteen months.
Mr. C. says the indians have again bro
ken out, playing sad havoc among the
whites. Be will not return until the

We have, says the Lancaster Ex
press, from reliable authority that the
organization of Col. Joseph W. Fisher's
regiment has been completed. 'The
Geld officers are : Colonel, Joseph W.
Fisher; Lieutenant Colonel, William

or Miss •
Ann Boggs, an aged and
highly respectable lady, fell down stairs
a few days since and was badly injured.
As we go to press the report is current
that she is dead, but upon inquiry we
find such is not the fact, but she is,
nevertheless, very seriously injured.

ter Whilst Dr. Hinkle was visiting
young Clark, on Saturday evening last,
about 9 o'clock, he left his horse and
buggy tied at the side door; during the
short time he was in the house, some
fearless, lawless scamps jumped into
the buggy and drove off. The horse
was discovered loose in Maytown on
Sunday morning. The animal was a
spirited and valuable oro , (l)elonging to
Mr. Samuel C. Slaymaker, formerly of
Ephrata Springs, who was paying the
Doctor a flying call, when the Doctor
got the use of the team to drive to Col.

when found had been driven nearly to
death. Such scoundrels should have the
severest penalty of the law laid on them,
eir James Clark, son of Col. John W.
Clark, of this borough, aged about 17
years, met with almost a fatal accident
a few days since, whilst handling a pis
tol, which, by some means was discharg
ed, the ball entering near the wrist and
passing up and under the arm, coming
out near the shoulder ; in its course gra
zed an artery. The young man has suf
fered most excruciating pain for more
than a week and was in a very critical
condition, for days regarded by his
physicians as at death's door. On F ri
day morning, yesterday, however, he was
considered as out of danger.
' car A son of Barney O'Bryan, of this
borough, was brought home on Saturday
evening last. He was wounded in the
foot in ono of the Virginia battles, a
week or two since and brought. home
for treatment. Dr. F. Flinkle amputa•

is doing well.

Ur We understand that Col. Clark
has sold his handsome large brick resi

Mr. George R. Vanleer, formerly of
Philadelphia, but now proprietor of the
Eureka Steam Mills, of this borough.
Mr. Clark intends removing to Phila

SPECIAL. NOTICES
-11:.? A number of years have elapsed since
the introduction of flostetter's Celebrated Bit
ters to the public. The prejudice existing in
the minds of many persons against what are
denominated patent medicines at first greatly
retarded its sale but as its vieues and mer
its became known, this barier of prejudice was
overthrown, and the demand increased so rap
idly that in a few years scarcely a village ex
histed in the United States in which the afflic
ted had not experienced the benefits arising
from the use of the "Bitters," and at the pres
ent day there are to be found, in all parts of
the world vouchers for the great merits of the
article. No greater cure for Dyspepsia can be
