Marietta, Saturday, July 9, 1864
sir We paid a flying visit to Reading,
Ephrata springs and Litiz ou the 4th
instant, and whilst at Reading called on
our former townsman, Charley Longen
derfer, who has leased Laner's Celebra
ted Lager Bier establishment on Chest
nut Street, below Third. This is one of
the most extensive Gardens of its kind
we have ever seen. It occupies at least
half-a-block and is enclosed by a high
rennet—filled with fine shade trees and
innumerable large and small tables upon
which "to hide" lager and sweitzer case,
or a glass of fine Refinish wine. Gas is
introduced all over the garden and in
the centre of the grounds there is a fine
stand—some 12 or 15 feet high—for a
band to discourse faderland strains.
Upon the whole It is a great business
place and Charley must be coining
money.
sir Elias Barr & Co.. Lancaster, ex
pect to have the "History of the Fenn
sylvania Reserves" ready for subscribers
by August. This history will contain
the names of all the officers and privates
of the corps—their promotions, casuali
ties and discharges—also, graphic de
scriptions of their camp life and their
gallant achievements iu the many battles
iu which they have taken part—ail de
rived from official and authentic sources.
The History of the Pennsylvania Re
serves will be in One Volume of 600
pages, octavo size, neatly printed on
good paper, and substantially bound in
black cloth, containing a steel engraving
of the lamented Reynold:2, and one of
Gov. Curtin (who first recommended the
formation of the Peonillvania Reserve
Corps , ,) and will be sold only by subscrip
t ions.
The pablishers feel confident that the
joist pride whieh every Yetius)lvanian
must entertain fur the brave wen whose
gallant achievements and putriotio s,lll*-
devotion it records, will secure for
"The !Eatery" a generoua and apprecia
tive reception.
igair This vicinity IS to great tribula

" Ultttz ferry," opposite this place, was
worked double-handed daring the. whole
of Thursday night, and droves of horses
were hourly seen going through town.
ar The Fourth of July passed off
very quietly in our place. Several pic

at the St. John House and an oration in
the town Hull. The town, however,
was thinned out to go to Reading, Eph
rata Spring's and Litiz. The Columbia
anffßeadiog Railroad did a "rushing"

those places. The crowd at the Litiz
Spring on the evening of the fourth was
immeuse.

SPECIAL NOTICES,
A number of years have elapsed since
the introduction of Hostetter's Celebrated Bit

the minds of many persons against what are
denominated patent medicines at fist greatly
retarded its sale ; but as its virtues and mer
its became known, this barier of prejudice was
overthrown, and the demand increased so rap
idly that in a few years scarcely a village ex
histed in the United States in which the afflic
ted had not experienced the benefits arising
from the use of the "Bitters," and at the pres
ent day there arc to be found, in all parts of

COUNTERFEITS.
As Kunkel's Bitter Wine of Iron is the'Only
sure and effectual remedy in the known world
for the permanent cure of Dyspepsia and De
bility, and as there are a number of imitations
offerer' to the public, we would caution the
community to purchase none but the genuine
article, manufactured by S. A KUNKLE ik
Brio., and has their stamp on the top of the
cork of every bottle. The very fact that others
are attempting to imitate this valuable reme
dy, proves its worth and speaks volumes in
its favor.
The Bitter Wine of Iron is put up in 75 cent
1121 , / $ 1 00 bottles, and sold by all iespectable
"druggists throughout the country. Be partic
ular that every bottle bears the fac simile of
the proprietor's signature.
This Wine includes the most agreeable and
efficient Salt of Iron we possess ; Citrate of
:Magnetic Oxide combined, with the most en
ergetic of vegetable tonics, Yellow Peruvian
bark. The effect in many cases of debility,
loss of appetite, and general prostration, of
an eftiettmt Salt of Iron, combined with cur
valuable Nerve Tonic, is most happy. It
augments the appetite, raises the pulse, takes
off muscular flabbiness, removes the pallor of
debility, and gives a florid vigor to the coun
tenance.
