ar By reference to our advertising
Columns it will be seen that Dr. Hinkle
has returned to his home in this borough
for the purpose of practising his pro
fession. The want of any medical as.
sistance in the hospitals—so few sick
and wounded on band now—made it
it necessary for the Doctor to report to
the Gulf department, a location which
be deemed highly detrimental to the im
paired condition of his health and hence
his withdrawal from the army 'and his
return home to practice. His return
will be glad news to many of his old

fir A very distressin
accident hap
-pected in this borough on Sunday last
during a "break-loose" of some timber
rafts. A raftman named Abraham De
haven, from Clearfield county, had his
leg caught in the folds of a loose rope
whilst attempting to "snub" a raft and
bad his foot almost pulled off' at the
ankle Joint. He was taken to Hollo
well's Eagle hotel, where Drs. Landis
and Huston amputated the limb. The
rivermen contributed $l5O for his bene
fit ; he is said to be a worthy, hard
working married man.

The Patent Conlin Reflector Lantern.
••••,,,,,••••••••••••
THIS is the most desirable Lantern in the
market. It burns Coal Oil without a
Chimney. emitting neither smoke nor smell.
It gives a pure white light.
It stands quick motions in any direction.
The flame is regulated from the outside.
It is neat and compact in form and size.
It is free from solder in the upper parts, and
is otherwise very substantial in its structure.
It has the glass sides so arranged that break
age is less likely to occur than in other Lan
terns, and in the event of do breakage can be ea
sily replaced. It has convex reflectors which
increase greatly the force of the flame, serving
at the same time the purpose of shades to the
eyes, which is very desirable.
It is sold lower, with all these advantages,
than any Lantern in the market which admits
of the flame bring regulated from tee outside.
