SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1863,
Itar A meeting of the citizens of Mid
dletown, Dauphin county, long the home
of General Cameron, was held a few
days since to express their disapproval
of the removal of Walter H. Kendig,
from the rest office of that place. The
old Winnebago, it is said, had Kendig
appointed, but because Kendig would
not do:all the dirty work wanted, he
was removed, through the same influence
which had him appointed, and a sister
of 'Cooney Walborn, the" Philadelphia
P. M., appointed in his stead. This
meeting'was officered by the best and
most influential citizens of the place ,
and passed strong resolutions against
the removal of Keudig, speaking of him
as an obliging, icompetent and worthy
officer, and asking the P. M. General
to re-instate him.
SW The Motet J oy Herald complains
of the chicken thieves in that vicinity,
Stating that over one hundred had been
stolen during last week, from Main
street alone. Perhaps our neighbors
have had a visit from some of our M
a
t•e'tta poultry merchants, who, during
last, winter, relieved quite a number of
roasts in the vicinity of Market Square.
If that "dough bake" tries its operations
on again this winter some exposures
will be made that will make some who
think themselves "some," feel rattier
chop fallen. "Let the truth be told
though the heavens fall."
tir The prospect of bitilding, the
coming spring, is very fair. Miss Franck
has purchased a triangle between the
town hull and Cassel's corner, on which
she intends to erect a very tine brick
dwelling. Mr. Jacob Roth is digging
the 'Cellar for a brick house-adjoining
the residence of Dr. Grove and immedi•
aiely opposite Ditfenbach's store. Jo
seph Roberts at the lower end is put
ting op a brick and Mr. Stibgen's, G. A.
Mehling's and matilicles, 'are being
erected as fast as the weather will per
mit, to say nothing of the frame houses
in course of erection.
Or The Farmer's and I;ardener's So
ciety of teat Donegal held a meeting on
Thursday evening last, and decided on
having a winter course of lectures, es
says, discussions upon practical farming
etc., on the 3d Thursday in every month,
in the Temperance hall. We know of
no place where an evening could be more
profitably spent. than in listening-to an
intelligent practical farmer giving; in his
own plain, common sense manner, the
results of his experience in farming.

a half century, in our place, we will

vacated place. We learn that Mr. B.
has had considerable experience in this
branch of business, prior to his coming
here. See his card in another column.

INT There was but one Copperhead
vote polled at the late election, in New
town, Rapho township, this county, and
no'one is willing to father it. The Mt.
Joy Herald says it was supposed to have
been snaked in by one Jacob Gipe, but
be stoutly denies it, declaring that he
voted for Curtin.

sr On Sunday last, Mary Love, long

turely gave birth to a child, which she
lays at the door of Gilmore Hull, the

anyin morals under its new management.

A Fortune for all !
EITHER MEN OR WOMEN!!
NO HUMBUG, but an ENTIRELY NEW
thing. Only three months in this country !
No clap-trap operation to gull the public, but
a genuine money-making thing ! Read the
Circular of instruction once only, and you will
understand it perfectly. A Lady has just
written to me that she is making as high as
TWENTY DOLL IRS SON E DAYS giving in
structions in this art. Thousands of Soldiers
are making money rapidly at it. No„person
has to be urged to patronize it. It is a thing
that takes better than anything ever before
offered. You can make money with it home
or abroad—on steamboats or railroad cars, and
in the country or city. You `will be pleased
in pursuing it, not ouli because it . will yield
a handsome income, lota also in consequence
of the general admiration which it elicits. It
is pretty much all profit. A mere trifle is
necessary to start wits.
There is scarcely one person out of thou
sands who ever pays any attention to adver
tisements of this kind, thinking they are hum
bugs. Consequently those who do send for
instructions wilt have a broad field to make
money in. There Is a class of persons in this
world who think because the have been
humbugged out of a dollar or so, that every
thing that is advertised is a humbug. Conse
quently they try no more. The person who
succeeds is the one that keeps on trying until
he hits something that pays him.
This art cost me one thousand dollars, and
expect to make money out of it,-and all who
purchase the art from me will do the same.—
th.e 4 Dollar sent to me will insole the prompt
return of a card of instructions in the art.—
The money will be recurred to those who are not
satisfied.

ITIOLLOWAY'S PILLS AND OINT
MENT.—AII who have Friends and
Relatives in the Army or Navy, should take
special care; that they be amply supplied with
these Pills and Ointment; and where the
brave Soldiers and Sailois have neglected to
provide theinselves with them, no better pres
ent can be sent them by their friends. They
have been proved to be the Soldier's never
failing-fiiend in the hour of need.
COUGHS AND COLDVAFFECTING TROOPS
Will be speedily reiievbd and effectually
cured by using these admirable medicines, and
by paying proper attention to the Directions
which are attached to each Pot or Box.
Sick Headache and want of Appetite Incident
to Soldiers !
Those feelings which so sadden us, usually
arise from trouble or annoyances, obstructed
prespiration, or eating and drinking whatever
is unwholesome, thus disturbing the healthful
action of the liver and stomach. These organs
must be relieved, if you desire to do well.—
The Pills, taking according to the Fluted
instructions, will quickly produce a healthy ac
tion in both liver and stomach, and as a natu
ral conseouence a clear head and good appeiite.
Weakness and debility induced by over Fatigue,
Will soon disappear by the use of these in.
valuable Pills, and the Soldier will quickly
acquire additional strength. Never let the
bowels be either confined or unduly acted
upon. It may seem strange that Holloway's
Pills should be recommended. for Dysentery
and Flux, many persons supposing that they
would increase the relaication. This is a
great mistake, for these Pills will correct the
liver and stomach and thus remove all the
acrid humours from the system. This medi
cine will give tone and vigor to the whole
organic system however, deranged, Willie
health and strength fullow as a matter of
course. Nothing will. stop the relaxation-of
the Bowels so sure as - this famous medicine:,
- VOLUNTEERS ATTENTION
Sores and Ulcers, Blotches and Siveflings
can with certainty be radically cured if the
Pills are taken night and morning, add the
Ointment be freely used as stated in the printed
nstruciions. If treated in any other.manner
they dry up in one part to break out in another.
Where is this Ointment will remove the
former from the system and leave the Patients
in vigorous and healthy man. It will require
as little perseverance in bad cases to insure a
I astn,g cure.
For Wounds either occasioned by the Bayonet
Sabre or the Bullet, Sores or Bruises,
To which every Soldier and Sailor are liable
there are no medicines so safe, sure -and con
venient as Holloway's Pills and Ointment.—
The pour wounded and almost dying sufferer
might have his wounds' dressed' immediately,
if he would only provide himself with this
matchless Ointment, which should be Thrust
into the wound and smeared all around ft. then
cover it with a piece of linen from his Knap
sack and compressed with a handkerchief.—
Taking night and morning 6 or 8 Pills, to cool
the syskin and prevent inilantation.
Every Soldier's Knapsack and Seaman's
Chest should be provided with these invalua
ble Remedies.
IDITORTANT CAUTION!—None are genuine
unless the words ‘: HOLLOWAY, NEW YORK
and Lor:Dox," are discernible as a Water
mark
in every leaf of the book of directions,
around each pot or box; the same may be
plainly seen by holding the leaf to the light.—
A handsome reward will be given to any one
rendering such information as may lead to the
detection of any party or parties counterfeiting
the medicines or vending the same, knowing
them to be spurious.
