SHIYI.EY.—The New (Means Era announces the promotion of Capt. A. Nash Shipley to a Briga dier Generalship of volunteers. Captain Shipley enlisted in Dauphin county as a common soldier. He has advanced regu larly froM one position to another, on the ground of real personal merit, until be has reached his present distinction. The honor is well bestowed. Lieut. Shipley resided a few years since in this borough : 'Captain A. N. Shipley, of the United States army, and who is well and favorably known in this de partment, has, we are happy to an nounce, been appointed a Brigadier t4eneral of volunteers, by General Emo ry, subject to the approval of the Gen eral commanding the department and of the President of the United States. General Shipley has been assigned to duty on the right bank of the river, and has already entered upon the discharge of his duties. Ile has been connected with the Quartermaster's Department. in this city, for the last few months, and has gained the respect and esteem of the public, by, his prompt attention to business. He has now an honorable position by merit, be having been pro moted from the ranks of the regular army for meritorious services: In ap pointing him to his present position, Gen. Emory has honored a worthy sol dier, and we doubt not he will perform his duties in a very satisfactory and creditable manner." PERSONAL—Captain Theodore D. Cochran died at the residence of his brother, lion. Thomas E. Cochran, at York, Pa., on Sunday the 26th ultimo, after a protracted illness. The deceased was well known in this community as a man of fine literary attainments. He edited the York Republican for a num ber of years with marked ability. He also edited a paper in this city some fifteen or eighteen years ago, called the "Old Guard," and in the years 1845-6 represented Lancaster county in the State Legislature. He served as Lieu tenant in the Mexican war, with distin guished gallantry, and at the breaking out of the Southern rebellion raised a company called the York Voltiguere, which was connected with Colonel Zei gle's 16th Pennsylvania regiment, in the three months' service. He subsequent ly was appointed a Captain in the 15th Regiment of Infantry, Regular Army, bat in consequence of infirm health was obliged to resign.—Lancaster Examiner. THE COUNTY TREASURY.—The County Treasurer has been quite busy paying out the $2 per week, allotted by the County Commissioners to the three months' men. There are 11 companies from this county the members of which are entitled to receive this money, but some of the officers have not returned their muster-rolls properly certified to the County Commissioners, and in con sequence thereof, their men are for the present debarred from receiving it. As each of these companies will num ber at least 60 men, it will take over $1,300 per week to pay them the county allowance. If these men should stay out their full time, the late raid:of-tha, rebels will cost this county over $6O,- 0001 Think of that you copperhead sympathizers of secession.—Lancaster Inquirer. Ur The Harrisburg Telegraph says " it is stated, on good authority, that when the body' of General Reynolds reached Lancaster word was sent, by one of his immediate relatives, to ex- President Buchanan not to be present at his funeral. To this we may add that the throng which attended the fu neral of the gallant dead openly de clared that - "if tho hypocrite Buchanan attempts to disgrace the cortege which follows a gallant hero to the grave with his presence, there would be two funer als instead of , one.'" ler Mr...Eckert, of the Glatz Ferry, is doing a' fine business. Will be speedily relieved and effectually cured by using these admirable medicines, and by paying proper attention to the Directions which are attached to each Pot or Box. Sick Headache and want of Appetite Incidental to Soldiers ! Those feelings which so sadden us, usually arise from trouble or annoyances, obstructed prespiration, or eating and drinking whatever is unwholesome, thus disturbing the healthful action of the liver and stomach. These organs must be relieved, if you desire to do well.— The Pills, taking according to the printed instructions, will quickly produce a healthy ac tion in both liver and stomach, and as a natu ral consequence a clear head and good appeiitc. Weakness and debility induced by aver Fatigue, Will soon disappear by the use of these in. valuable Pills, and the Soldier will quickly acquire additional strength. Never let the bowels be either confined or unduly acted upon. It may seem, strange that Holloway's Pills should be recommended for Dysentery and Fiux, many persons supposing that they would increase the relaxation. This is a great mistake, for these Pills will correct the liver and stomach and thus remove all the acrid humours from the system. This medi cine will give tone and vigor to the whole organic system however deranged, while health and strength follow as a matter of course. Nothing will atop the relaxation of the Bowels so sure as this famous medicine. VOLUNTEERS ATTENTION I Sores and Ulcers, Blotches and Swellings can with certainty be radically cured if the Pills are taken night and morning, and the Ointment be freely used as stated in the printed nstructions. If treated in any other manner they dry-up in one part to break out in another. Where Is this Ointment will remove the former from the system and leave the Patients in vigorous and healthy man. It will require as little perseverance in bad cases to insure a lastng cure. For Wounds either occasioned by the Bayonet Sabre or the Bullet, Sores or Bruises, To which every Soldier and Sailor are liable there are no medicines so safe, sure and con venient as Holloway's Pills and Ointment The poor wounded and almost dying sufferer might have his wounds dressed immediately, if he would only provide himself with this matchless Ointment, which should be thruss into the wound and smeared all around it, then cover a ith a piece of linen from his Knapsack and compressed with a handkerchief. Taking night and morning . 6 or 8 Pills, to cool the system and prevent intiamation.
