years old, and a graduate of West Point,-

distinction in Mexico, and after Wards in

in 1854, and in July, 1861, w.hen. resid
ing in Massachusetts, he- was. commis
sioned Colonel of- the Seventh Massa
chusetts regiment. Soon afterwards he
was 'appointed a Brigader General of
volunteers, and bad a brigade assigned
to him in the Army of the Potoniai..
